Old Everton Pictures

The catt knew what he was doing as soon as we won the league in 1963 he went straight up to scotland to sign Sandy - Shanks rated him high too not just he scored for him - he could play anywhere , and had a thunderous shot.....
Brown was signed (too late for the European deadline) in a bit of a hurry when Catterick realised he had no fullback cover.
Until Wright established himself and ﹰWilson was signed, 63-64 and part of 64-65 was a hard time for fullback selection, with Meagan, Parnell, Stevens, Harris, Parker, Wright and Brown all having a go with varying success.

Frank Worthington was young in this one. What a marvellous footballer he was, sad to hear that he is not well. He's about 70 years old.
Must tell you this though> Alf Ramsey once said to Frank whilst he was playing for England, " I'll probably pull you off at half-time" to which Frank
replied " Thanks boss , I'm only used to half an orange". Needless to say, Frank was never selected again by Ramsey.
The rs had him signed sealed and nearly delivered subject to a medical then pulled out because he had low blood pressure...too much of a risk...played on until he was 38, so much for medicals.

Joey did you see Kay play? My old fella says he was the dogs danglies...would love to have seen him.
Kay took the money because he thought he could play along and come to no harm. We would do the same if you had no intention of cheating (hence his performance on the day). Trouble was it was a sting and he got stung. Dishonest form of capturing (so called) wrong doing. You would need several examples of this for a court to convict on solid evidence (assuming a decent barrister) in the present day. By way of example a hungry man might take a small sum of money but that doesn't make him a thief.

He didnt 'take money' he put a bet on via a third party...and was named MotM by the same paper that exposed him...based on the evidence of yet another 'third party' who was grassing in all and sundry to cop a plea for his own misdemeanors
Examples were made, draconian punishments and bans handed out and nobby stiles got a world cup winners medal.

Oh and he was good, very, very good...we're talking holy trinity good here.
