He was so slow on the turn, and admitted he was glad to see the back of Bally......Loved the old Amber-blue-amber strip too, probably one of my all time fave kits.
As for Keith Newton, after Wrighty and Wilson finshed we did struggle a bit. I remember Terry getting a lot of stick, and Pickwick plus as you say Keith Newton.
Now, here's one for you, as a kid in the street end I saw Keith Newton score one of the best goals I've seen at Goodison. My mind may be playing tricks but I'm certain he hit it from fully 45/50 yards out, very close to halfway line anyway......second half attacking the street end.
I remember game ended 3-3 but just can't remember opponents.
Bought by Catterick because by and large, if he wanted a player, John Moores would just sign the cheque without question.Keith Newton an expensive buy from Blackburn Rovers who imo never cut the mustard for us -

I did not quote that goal it was @Street end man - I did quote I Red report from Keith Newton he was glad Bally left our club .....Bally was resented as Captain though by certain players even and Kendall had a row on the pitch in one game, and Newton got a tounge lashing when we lost 3-2 away at Leeds after Newton had blundered, to me Newton was past his best when we signed him slow on the turn and found out by many wingers, always looked comfortable on the ball than without it - I remember bumping into him ata game he was dropped in outside Goodision - he had been daropped , and we had been defeated slated the team offin front of fans never impressed with him after his remarks to the fans I was with.......Joey your 3-3 game was West Brom and, by a streak of luck it was one of the games I looked at in the Echo last week/ Sep 72 . The goal was described "...with Keith Newton scoring his first goal for the club. It came when he picked up a half hit clearance and from 30 yards hit a spectacular shot which dipped and beat Combes completely"
