Spot on I was there that day when Connollys double break happened it was horrific right in front of me in the paddock - Gary Jones showed so much potential, but just never made it big time - he was in the scuffle that emerged after that tackle that finished imo Connollys leg break - he was never the same after that tackle!......he was decent but never really came through. Remember him chinning the Altrincham player involved in the tackle that broke John Connollys leg in an FA Cup tie. Hope my memory is correct.
My older brother I sent that to him and he could name everyone bar one on the front row to the right he thinks it was a full back next to Roy Vernon maybe Jimmy Tansey?

I was only a nipper in '59 but I can recognize Gabriel (i think), Parker, Dunlop, Bingham, Collins, Vernon. Tansey is not a name that resonates with me so your brother is probably right.
Also thanks for putting up the Gary Jones pic. I really liked that lad and thought he was going to be big. I recall the Daily Mirror putting up a picture of him and Tommy Smith holding toy guns before a derby game and calling it ' Smith and Jones' after the tv series.
Yes it is temple looked in my EFC bible of games 1959 Tansey did play three games, or maybe another older poster can help out my brother and me realled the off bat the sat on the front row next to Vernon!.....looks like a young Derek Temple on the end of the front row next to Vernon.

Gary Jones was an enigma some games he was explosive others passed him by yet like you I enjoyed watching him!
He started very young in the first team, flipped in and out before securing his first team place - He had a lovely sweet shot on him proved as you state in the 1966 cup final!......Joey, I once played in the same team as Temple. I was playing in side managed by Dave Hickson and he asked me to play in a charity match at Littlewoods in Wavertree. Dave played, as did Temple and Brian Harris. In the dressing room Temple and I were changed first and he grabbed a ball and we went out for a warm up. Even then he could really strike a ball sweetly.
I thought, here am I having a kick about with the bloke who scored the winning goal in the '66 Cup Final. He was still full of enthusiasm.
