Pampered, they weren't.
I was about to say "it still was when I was in school" then I realised that was 20 years ago lol....not certain but I thought Temple played for Liverpool Schoolboys and was a prolific scorer. Playing for the schoolboys in those days was really something, took precedent over professional football clubs.
the only Jones listed in that game was T E Jones who did play left back that day in 1960 Nov 19th?Gabriel,Parker,Dunlop,Labone,Jones,Harris...back row.
Bingham, Wignall,Collins,Vernon and Temple...front row
v Newcastle....Everton won 5-0... Collins 3,Vernon,Wignall
November 1960.....
Does it look like him???the only Jones listed in that game was T E Jones who did play left back that day in 1960 Nov 19th?
Would he have looked older?
The old main stand was fantastic. The player between Brian Labone and Brian Harris is the one player my older brother is unsure of thinks it maybe Jimmy Tansey the fullback -
the one on the end bottom right is deffo Derek Temple -
My memory of Jones was that he was a moody get. Talented and meant to be the next great thing but never really happened. Last memory of him was sarcastically clapping Bingham when being substituted at Goodison. Did not last long after that !!!I was only a nipper in '59 but I can recognize Gabriel (i think), Parker, Dunlop, Bingham, Collins, Vernon. Tansey is not a name that resonates with me so your brother is probably right.
Also thanks for putting up the Gary Jones pic. I really liked that lad and thought he was going to be big. I recall the Daily Mirror putting up a picture of him and Tommy Smith holding toy guns before a derby game and calling it ' Smith and Jones' after the tv series.
TG Jones was before TE Jones!lolThing is don,t get T.E. mixed up with T.G. Jones
