....John Robertson came along later and was very similar to Morrisey. Robertson scored the winning goal in a European Cup Final and Morrisey got some important ones for us. Not many full backs kicked Johnny Morrisey for fear of getting worst back.
Yes they were similar underated stocky players who's footwork made up for their lack of pace their crossing was brilliant - Moggsy had the edge imo as he lasted a longer duration , and scored vital goals, He was so hard - If Bally or Kendall got hit hard by a Leeds player or a notorious dirty player from another side they would give Moggsy the nod , and he would deal with them the first chance he got, his favourite trick was to hit his marking fullback hard as early as he could - never get away with it now but it was the game when Men were Men. and the Refs waved play on!lol

...that's great isn't it. Both local lads, Lawler went to St Teresa's in Norris Green. Lawler was a prolific goalscorer but I think Tommy Wright trumps him with international caps.
Just reading the Brian Viner book about the blues Looking for the Toffees , and football in General in the 1970's and the fan base, he pointed out how ironical that our theme tune Z cars was written by a Liverpool fan, and the other lot YNWA sung by Gerry Marsden who was a Blues fan but changed with the success of the song as a turncoat Red great read for any older blues fans only half way through it ATM!
