Today's throwback image is of Captain Brian Labone clutching the FA Cup (and a lucky cat cardboard cut-out?) in 1966. Please share your memories of Labby with us. Perhaps you met the great Corinthian? @Eggs ?-

not comparing myself to Brian Labone......no way. But I took the old dog for a long walk during that match. Also could not bare the tension. Timed to come back knowing that the match was over. The wife gave me the thumbs up. So all was well. phew.......that's Everton. But no more of that nonsense.......please.....ah no, I never got to meet him but he played so many games he was a formative part of my growing up.
There’s an image of Labone, though, that sums up his love for the club, it’s a picture from long after his playing days were over.
That gut wrenching last home game of the season v Coventry where defeat would relegate us was clearly too much for the true gentleman. There was a picture published of him walking down Goodison Road before the final whistle. it was desolate and he cut a lonely figure but he couldn’t stand the tension of the match. I don’t recall ever seeing that picture in this thread.
Like Colin Harvey, i think Brian Labone epitomises the true values of Everton Football Club.
I had a bug My Brother went & could not get in ....I thought we had gone down that day at 2-0 down ......not comparing myself to Brian Labone......no way. But I took the old dog for a long walk during that match. Also could not bare the tension. Timed to come back knowing that the match was over. The wife gave me the thumbs up. No penalty.......referees were rubbish even back then. Or biased? Look were the referee is.Everton v Ipswich Town 1969 -looks like a pen to me - research shows no - in a 2-2 draw
