I seem to remember he made an excellent debut at 17 Vs United in 1957(?) but failed to keep up the progress. I used to watch him in the reserves in the early 60's when you got in for free with your season ticket. Didn't make you say wow something special here, ended up playing in New Zealand... early example of all the usual suspects Kissock, Baxter, Green etc...it's a hard road
 
Remember them days sitting on a bar in the street end the attendance
would be shown on on the scoreboard to the cries of "there's more of us than that"

The 'official attendance' was the longest running joke of the 70s. the official capacity was 55K, you would look around and say yeah, 3/4-ish full, call it 37-8K
Then at the end of the game the official attendance would come over and today's attn. is 31,734, cue hoots of laughter and derision.
people used to stay behind just for the laugh.

remember it was all cash then, no paper trail...ker-ching... just sayin like
