There’s a decent story behind that match, I even have the match programme somewhere in the loft. Bedford went on many decent cup runs in the 60s, including nearly knocking out Arsenal! The day the match tickets went on sale for the Bedford v Ev match I believe Everton we’re playing Northampton or somewhere local to here, many fans travelled an extra 20/30 mins into Bedford to get their tickets. Demand was high, and many locals climbed the fences to get into the packed ground.

a very short spell at Glentoran. Played only 6 games for them. Something to do with bad hearing made him leave the job. Only guessing.......But heading those heavy leather footballs all his career could not have been.good for him. Couldn't have been good for all players from the era.

Can't remember the source, but but I remember Youngy was apologetic that EFC didn't see the best of him because his poor hearing stopped him from hearing shouts from his team mates for a pass. He also suffered greatly from blistering to his feet which stopped him playing quite a few games.

Now I think of it, I can remember that he made remarks along those lines at a Dinner he attended in Liverpool many, many years after his retirement but think there was a quote in either an autobiography or general history of the Blues by the Francis bloke who got together the collection of memorabilia & who worshipped the GV.

Tommy Smith.........the guy with a face that you should need a licence for.
We all know that he had a top class career. So I'll give him a little credit. But the few times that I saw him up close and personal, all he did was kick opposition players. He should have been sent off.........some of his tackles were bordering on criminal. He really did live up to his reputation the few times that I saw him play.
Would players like him survive in today's almost non- contact game?
Alan Ball would . Don't think that Smith would.........
