According to Wikipedia there was previously a wooden church.Interesting, the article mentions "old" St Luke's - was there another church there prior to the current church?

That was yesterday, can't be expected to remember that.There's a reference to the "old" St Luke's in the blog you linked to, so I'm guessing it retained its name.

1907: The St Luke’s Mothers’ Union was formed

something that always makes me chuckle when I do the weather check on bbc website is the location, and its repeated on the church website

Until I read this I assumed Goodison Road was on the right......so Goodison Rd is on the left of the picture. Not sure when the Church was built but there can't be many views of that corner of the ground without it on.
