Old Everton Pictures

I wonder if anybody has any old streetmaps of Liverpool pre 1880 which might show a church ?

Walton map 1898.webp

This map of 1898 clearly shows St Luke's Church on the site of today's St Lukes which we know the foundation stone was laid in 1899.

Odd picture this. In the write up it says we 'entertained' Manu and won 3-1. Considering we were at home I don't remember that scoreboard.

"Harry Catterick's men entertained Sir Matt Busby's side on the opening day of the 1967/68 campaign looking to make a statement against the team that had won the previous season's league title and would nine months later become the first English team to lift the European Cup.

Alan Ball gave the Blues an early lead, tapping in from close range after Joe Royle's knock-back and added a second midway through the second half after Colin Harvey's surge tore the visitor's defence open.

A shell-shocked United were then completely undone by some Alec Young magic as the Scottish forward expertly controlled Ball's pass and weaved between two defenders before smashing a magnificent finish beyond Stepney.

Bobby Charlton added a late consolation but the Goodison faithful went home happy with their first taste of live football after the long summer break".

Found the match, posted it in the Everton Video Thread. The picture is as ropy as the pitch. A great fluid game, that Royle looks handy.

Imo They have mixed up the photo with the report from the 3-1 win that gets shown on here quite regularly, opening game of the 1967-68 season. I bet the photo is from a different game at their place.
