You're right there were no outstanding teams that season. The players reckon Bingham's fitness training left them so knackered they ran out of steam towards the end of the season. I also think the loss of Connolly in January cost us, and Latchford being not fully fit, although he played.Absolutely threw it away. We weren’t great and it was a dog eat dog season but we had done everything we needed to .... except avoid throwing points away from winning positions against crap teams!!!
For the officianados; that’s Paul Barron in goal, Paul Hinshlewood (aka Doris) on his knees and all time Palace legend Big Jim Cannon looking on. 5-0.. 20 Sept 1980, Att.26,950. We finished bottom that season and didn’t come back until 1989.
John McCormick, Tony Taylor and Gerry Queen for Palace, not as captioned. Looks like from the 3-1 Everton win in August 69. Mel Blyth put Palace ahead in front of the suspiciously exact attendance of 50,700. It was Palace’s first ever away game in the top division.
This guy was just hitting brilliant form - I was right by that tackle v Altrincham I was in the old paddock -I heard the crack in his leg an awful tackleYou're right there were no outstanding teams that season. Biggest mistake for me was us not signing anyone in the following summer. There were obvious areas that needed strengthening and we didn't do it.
Steve Seargeant not Bernard.I see Lyons, Bernard, Kenyon, Clements and Dai Davies. All played in the defeat in Nov 76. Looks like Lorimer & Clarke for Leeds.
