Old Everton Pictures

Great CH. Totally reliable when Labone would be injured. He would invariably be the sub in 1970-71. Unfortunately when Wilf Dixon took over in Catterick's absence late in the 1970/1 season he preferred an all-rounder to be on the bench. This proved our downfall in the semi against the RS when he put Sandy Brown on the bench instead. As fate would have it, Labone was injured after an hour and Brown just couldn't cope with Toshack.

The Toffees went into implosion mode and took years to recover after that disaster and the Greek tragedy. Years in the wilderness were just over the horizon.

Roger Kenyon had been sub in every FA Cup round that season, he had a right go at Wilf Dixon before the game over being left out even as substitute..... Everton that -
Destroyed that team, in the end it was just dismantled.....

Some iconic Westy moments there. The one bottom left was while he was still Tangerine before he went Toffee I believe.

The next one along Westy at his young and throaty best at the Championship 63 celebrations in the Goodison road stand and, having not played that day, was well oiled at this moment on shampoo I would suggest.

Next is a real find. Westy appears to be patting a very worried looking Astle presumably after the horror show in the 68 Final in extra time. No wonder he is worried as the great Gordon looks disturbed and ready to blow as he bears his teeth ready to bite.

The large picture I think is the Semi 66 win at Bolton. Recognize the white post fence. If you look behind the net you can see some fans laid out on the ground struggling for air. It was absolute chaos there that day, particularly behind that goal, and those flimsy white posted fences where the only thing between triumph and disaster. How they held out was a miracle.

…I have a vague recollection that famous bottom left picture won a few awards, it’s certainly iconic. Not sure about that being Blackpool, looks like EFC socks but you could be right.

Gary Jones, a local lad from schoolboy Whistonian football - The Everton winger with an abundance of talent & potential. He was 17 and working for a building contractor when he joined the Toffees. After 82 Football League outings, he continued his career at Birmingham City & Fort Lauderdale -

Happy 66th birthday to a lovely man, former Toffees forward right-winger George Telfer - same age as me - he used to walk past my girlfriends, now my wife's house in Roby always with a ball at his feet dribbling along - just learnt a long life red, till he joined us that is -
