I was not there, but sharpy stated loads of chances were missed that game ...... @Dario Terracotta I think was at this game ?I agree, but that seminal miss by Lineker was a defining moment in the chase for the title.

My first Everton hero, the first of many.
lol fans say that about DCL now, but they are bricking it he & Rhico will be sold - quite rightly too ,,.....For such a goal machine (which I agree for that season) he was crap when one-on-one with the 'keeper. Just look at the Cup Final...
By the way this thread is known for comradely, its not an aggro thread lollol fans say that about DCL now, but they are bricking it he & Rhico will be sold - quite rightly too ,,.....
The RS's form during the run in was much better than ours which was a key factor too...the opposite of what would happen the season after. On Wednesday 30th April 1986 we were still in the driving position prior to kick-off.
That night:
Oxford-1 Everton-0
Leicester-0 RS-2
After the above results, we had two games to play, the RS one. The RS only had to then win that last game away at Chelsea (which they did) to secure the title, as we were then behind them to such an extent that even winning the last two games (which we did) we could still not catch them. They are the hard, cold, facts.
So thank you Lineker, sod off to Barca and we'll win the league without you the following season...
I went to filbert street once - hostile fans - I was in the stands let a can of ale open & covered them with ale - we just won Bernie the Bolt was playing for us in a kit that was bursting at the seams LOL
1) 27.08.66 Brown v L'pool (H) - Sandy Brown heads Everton's third as they defeat Liverpool. Sandy is remembered for his infamous derby own goal yet no one talks about thisHe scored a great header in a Derby for us in a 3-1 win - fans forget that.......
Not absolutely sure about this but they never lost more than one game, if that, after we beat them 2-0 in the Anfield Derby game and Dagliesh restored himself to the team. The RS's form during the run in was much better than ours which was a key factor too...the opposite of what would happen the season after.
Everton 2 Wolves 0 in Sept 1978 at Goodison Park. Colin Todd clears up at the back for Everton - what a class act he was -

When Sandy scored in that Derby game I think he came on as a sub. with no number on the back of his shirt, I think it was Alan Ball’s first Derby game when he scored two early goals.1) 27.08.66 Brown v L'pool (H) - Sandy Brown heads Everton's third as they defeat Liverpool.
