I left in 72-73 also during the Bingham years around 12 years old. Did you hit the baths at Hudson. Nearly all the nearby schools used our facilities.St Andrews mate,i was only in the infants we left in 1972 I think!
Ha. Heighway lived on Leighton avenue which linked Dodds lane to the Square for a while. RS mate went to get his autograph and Brian Hall was in there too as we looked through into the living room. In fairness he was kind enough to give my mate his autograph. He turned to me and said 'do you want one too?' To which I replied 'no chance mate I'm an Evertonian!!!' He was a bit narked but Hall laughed. It was not long after the 1971 semi so was said with a fair amount of venom for a nice kid from Maghull!!!!Yes it was wasn't it. Somebody said Labone lived their for a short time also perhaps on this thread. I remember Gordon West lived close to our digs. Bumped into Steve Heighway who was dating/married a teacher at Summerhill primary school while we played school footy for Hudson School.
Great memories. My mate who was a L'pool fan got his autograph that day. Not me I couldn't handle that but he seemed like a nice chap at the time.Ha. My cousin worked briefly for Labone's but I think it was after Brian and his brother had sold the business but the name was kept. I had left the area by then.
Funnily enough on leaving Maghull we went to Rainford for three years then on to Ainsdale Steve Heighway used to have his own sports shop in Ainsdale Village, you'd go in and he'd be serving behind the counter, imagine that nowadays, different times eh?!!Ha. Regards Brian Harris, he lived on the Wirral, in Bromborough.
My mam worked at the dry cleaners on New Chester Road, its still there now. She found a pay slip of Harris's in his suit pocket.
£60 a week he was on. 1966, my dad was bringing home £16 from 40hrs. at Levers, so 4 times the normal wage.
Does that sound about right?
Legends everyone of themsome bench in 1985
Was on the pitch after this game , some giant of a Southampton fan came up to me , put his hand out to shake mine but instead punched me in the belly. Was only 16 went down like a bag of cement . Great memories
