Harvey said the opposite -why? the 1969/70 team only had 3 midfielders not 4 like the 1980s successful side - although the 1980s side won more I feel the 1967 - to 1970 team played more spectacular football v tougher opposition too in that era - hard to compare I know!...the old debate. Interestingly, Colin Harvey told Kendal the 1970 was much superior, I think he said the score would be 6-3. I suppose Harvey and Kendall would know.
For me, that team just shades the 1969-1970 team. Not a single weakness...

I've heard a few say that the teams either side of the 69/70 season were the best.Harvey said the opposite -why? the 1969/70 team only had 3 midfielders not 4 like the 1980s successful side - although the 1980s side won more I feel the 1967 - to 1970 team played more spectacular football v tougher opposition too in that era - hard to compare I know!
Just shades the 1969/1970 team, but only just !!1985
Yes they acihvied great feats trophy wise, the eras were totally different - the pitches in the 1967/70 team played on mud bath pitches too, the opposition in the early era had Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester City etc in their pomp hard to compare it was that holy trinity of our midfield that was to saviour!I've heard a few say that the teams either side of the 69/70 season were the best.

I was 12 years old to travel away, and here away fans applaud us off the pitch after blistering football stays in my mind our defence was our attack we had one centre forward the goals came all through the team it ozzed class from keeper to number 9' it was total football - I enjoyed the 1980,s team too so fitting the two hat the helm were part of the holy trinity!
Just a pity that both teams for reasons never dominated Europe!
One a sad break up of the team, the other Hysel disaster!
Only the red lotlolI'm with you on this Joey, I was fortunate to see the mid-1980's team but too young for the 1970 side, but yeah I'd say the standard of the league in general was a lot higher 1n 1970 as opposed to 1985,some truly great teams back then City,United,Leeds,Arsenal,Spurs, even the likes of West Ham,I haven't forgotten anyone have I?lol

There was more teams in the run in with a chance of the title in 1969/70 the mighty Leeds and as @Dario Terracotta stated when i was at anfield derby with approx 6 games to go Liverpool were about 6th with title aspirations that day!Do you think?
I'm too young to have seen either side, but I would have thought the standard of the league was really high in the mid-80's, with English teams dominating European competition. Looking back I would have thought knocking Liverpool off their perch when they were champions of England and Europe was the bigger achievement.
