Old Everton Pictures

Went to this replay and the game at Palace, the got their retaliation in first and no mistake
Really feisty game at Palace and it must have been even to be mentioned as such, because it was rough in any case those days.
As usual, GP packed to the rafters and without checking, I recall Scott's goal must have been in the first few minutes.

Could not resist mate!!! 37 seconds courtesy of Everton results.....Hard low shot from just outside right corner of penalty area into Park End courtesy of my vivid memory!!! I was in front row of main stand right on line with him!!!

Good grief that ref looks of like a Giant.

I've heard a few say that the teams either side of the 69/70 season were the best.

Nah, only half right, IMO obvs.
That game on vimeo from 67-68 Vs Untd shows that it was all coming together. Some of the football between then and 69-70 was exquisite...I still think it was a pity that Harry did his usual trick of selling off players who he didn't buy and/or 'talked back' to him too early; Young & Gabriel.

70-71; We finished 11th? went out of the cup at the first hurdle - no change there - was a curate's egg season. Players seemed to lose form...due to World Cup?, some just lost form...West had his famous melt down with the Crowd. All the big results went against us.
Panathinaikos kicked lumps off us twice.
That could've been the start of it all.
In fact somebody wrote a whole 'Alternate History' in the Turtledove manner starting from there. I might post it in the close season / quiet time / International break just for Interest sake

2nd season syndrome - we don't do dynasties - or just plain Everton That, take your pick.

Anyway you slice it, it was the beginning of the end, when it so easily(?) could've been the end of the beginning.
Everton That.

Lost in semis to RS in same week as knocked out by Panathanaikos. We were never the same again RS on the rise. Time catching up with Labone, We were poor most of the league season

Thanks for that.
Yes, Scott just leathered it as it came out of their area from outside the box.
Thinking about it the hostile atmosphere, wasn't it because as well as the players getting booted from arse hole to breakfast time in the first game, didn't our travelling fans have to run the gauntlet?

That Panathinakos and maybe the WBA Final are the most disappointing results in my lifetime.

How could we not beat that lot from Greece over two games. They offered a solid defence and little else; they were spoilers. That defeat was a cold dose of reality and maybe we were not as good as we thought.
