Old Everton Pictures

Thanks for that.
Yes, Scott just leathered it as it came out of their area from outside the box.
Thinking about it the hostile atmosphere, wasn't it because as well as the players getting booted from arse hole to breakfast time in the first game, didn't our travelling fans have to run the gauntlet?
Possibly but can't remember that detail. It was a great replay and got off to a flying start.

That Panathinakos and maybe the WBA Final are the most disappointing results in my lifetime.

How could we not beat that lot from Greece over two games. They offered a solid defence and little else; they were spoilers. That defeat was a cold dose of reality and maybe we were not as good as we thought.
A bit harsh there mate. We battered them at goodison and should have won 6-0. Just would not go in until scrambled last minute equaliser. They only got out of their half once and scored? Harshly treated by ref in second leg. But that team did break up so quickly from that point on.

Really feisty game at Palace and it must have been even to be mentioned as such, because it was rough in any case those days.
As usual, GP packed to the rafters and without checking, I recall Scott's goal must have been in the first few minutes.
The first game at Palace was brutal. They had their centre forward, Gerry Queen. sent off after a huge scuffle. Headline in the paper the next day was "Queen in brawl at Palace"!

Derby win, 1981.

Blimey....I bet no-one won that Spot The Ball in The Footie Echo Pink

Biggest fiddle ever that mate, so you're right nobody did ever 'win' it. The Ball was 'removed' and an internal echo somebody decided who was the winner, by casting runes or reading tea cups or something - it was usually in the last place anybody would ever pick...and even when you did that it was somewhere else
iirc, there was a scandal when it came out that more often than not, there wasn't even a ball in the original picture.

Different times hey ...as if anyone now would be even arsed getting a postal order... then a stamp... then posting it off...unless you had an 'Echo office' near to hand it. Remember when I was a kid in the 60s my Dad studying it on his only day off (likewise the pools coupon)....never won a light on either. No wonder, especially the STB when as you say it was a con...some bright spark brought out cellophane grid things years later with pinhead size 'x's crammed into an inch or so - supposed to be a guide. You paid by the amount of 'x's you'd entered so my Dad's half a dollars worth, however neat, were already a waste of time ! God bless him...he died just after my 9th birthday.

Yes it also gave the game away when every competition had the same amount of winners every week however the ball was positioned sometimes very difficult, my auntie won £500 as second prize which was a hell of a lot of money then!
I heard it was a raffle of the closest ones!
