1967 - Coventry City 0-2 Everton. Harry Catterick's EFC side journeyed to Highfield Road & came away with all 3 points, after goals from Joe Royle & Jimmy Husband. The win lifted EFC to 7th in the table.
1962 - Everton 3-0 Sheffield United. The Blues retained the top spot in the league by beating the Blades at Goodison. Two goals from Roy Vernon & 1 goal from Dennis Stevens sealed the win for EFC.
1998 -EFC club captain Duncan Ferguson was sold to Newcastle Utd for £8m. The sale shocked EFC fans & also boss Walter Smith who was blindsided by chairman Peter Johnson’s decision to sanction the move. A furious fan backlash to Johnson led to him putting EFC up for sale.
1973 - Everton 1-1 Newcastle Utd. Mick Lyons scored EFCs only goal as EFC remained in 4th place. The match was notable for an early 2:15pm kick off due to the emerging electricity crisis & so that EFC avoided having to turn on the floodlights towards the end of the match.
1985 - Everton 1-1 Nottingham Forest. The Blues had to settle for a point vs Brian Clough's Forest at Goodison. Paul Bracewell scored EFCs goal, in a result that saw the Blues remain in 6th place.
1930 - Everton 5-0 Stoke City. The Blues won this Division 2 clash & retained their place at the top of the league thanks to a Dixie Dean hat trick & 2 goals from Tommy Johnson.
2003 - Everton 2-0 Wolves. David Moyes' struggling Blues climbed out of the relegation zone with victory over Wolves at Goodison. Goals from Tomasz Radzinski & Kevin Kilbane secured the win.
1978 - Everton 3-0 Man Utd. Gordon Lee's Blues continued their great start to the season with a 3-0 win over Man Utd. Goals from Bob Latchford, Andy King & Trevor Ross ensured EFC stayed in 2nd place in the table.
1896 - Liverpool 0-0 Everton - The 4th Merseyside Derby ever was the first one to be goalless but also featured another first - EFCs Alf Milward was the first Everton player to be sent off in a derby. Up the Toffees.
1961 - Dave Watson was born. A legendary EFC captain, he won a league title & FA Cup with EFC, spanning 2 different EFC eras, scoring 37 goals in 528 appearances over 14yrs at the club. He was even player/caretaker-manager & captain simultaneously for 7 games in 96/97.
1971 - Everton 8-0 Southampton. One of the biggest wins in Everton history saw Joe Royle score 4, David Johnson score a hat trick & Alan Ball round off the scoring with 1 in an 8-0 rout over Southampton at Goodison. It was EFCs biggest win for 32 years.
1960 - Everton 5-0 Newcastle United. The Blues silenced the Geordies with a 5 goal thrashing at Goodison, thanks to a Bobby Collins hat-trick & goals from Roy Vernon & Frank Wignall.
Born on this day in 1900, Jimmy Dunn. The Scottish ‘Wembley Wizard’ won the league and FA Cup as a Toffee, playing at inside-forward. His son, also Jimmy, played for Wolves.
