Dec 21, 1960 - Tranmere Rovers 0-4 Everton. This was the first season that the Football League Cup competition was held. EFC beat Tranmere Rovers in a 4th round League Cup tie at Prenton Park, after a hat-trick from Frank Wignall & 1 goal from Billy Bingham.
Dec 20, 2003 - Everton 3-2 Leicester City. David Moyes’ provided some pre-festive cheer by winning a 5 goal thriller at Goodison, thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney, Tomasz Radzinski & Lee Carsley.
Dec 20, 1988 - Everton 2-0 Millwall. A crowd of just 3703 fans at Goodison - the lowest attendance ever for a non-pandemic 1st team match at Goodison since records began - saw EFC advance to the SIMOD Cup quarter finals thanks to goals from Tony Cottee & a Terry Hurlock own goal.
Dec 20, 1879 - Everton 6-0 St Peter’s. Everton Football Club’s first ever match, after changing their name from St Domingo. A friendly match held at Stanley Park saw them thrash local side St Peter’s 6-0. History was made & things would never be the same again.
Dec 19, 1975 - Coventry City 1-2 Everton. A rare non-holiday Friday night game in this era for the Blues, away at Highfield Road. EFC came away victorious thanks to goals from Bob Latchford & 1 from Gary Jones via the penalty spot.
Dec 18, 1990 - Blackburn Rovers 1-4 Everton. The Blues advanced to the 3rd round of the Zenith Data Systems Cup with a comprehensive win over pre-Jack Walker-owned, Division 2 Blackburn. Two goals from Dave Watson & 1 each from Mike Newell & Tony Cottee secured the victory.
