James Meunier Stockport raised with French heritage, he played football for EFC and county cricket for Warwickshire. Served in WW1, receiving a letter of thanks for helping to protect the Amiens convent.
In 1898, the Toffees beat Sheffield Wednesday at Goodison Park, 1-0. Edgar Chadwick got the goal. In the side were Scottish brothers, Laurie and John Bell. John was a true EFC star & also a players’ union activist.
Travelling by air to an away match was a novelty for Everton in 1972 when they flew to play Norwich City. Note the use of a DC-3 (Dakota) aircraft - WW2 technology and comfort levels!
1973 - Everton 3-2 Aston Villa. Harry Catterick’s Blues won an FA Cup 3rd Round tie vs Aston Villa at Goodison. Rod Belfitt scored 1 of his 2 goals for EFC, whilst Mick Buckley & Joe Harper also scored for EFC.
1993 - Everton 1-2 Wimbledon. The Blues fell to defeat in a FA Cup 3rd Round replay, in front of the smallest ever FA Cup crowd at Goodison, 15293 fans. Dave Watson scored EFCs only goal.
