1953 - Huddersfield Town 8-2 Everton. After beating Huddersfield 2-1 at Goodison in this Division 2 game the previous day, EFC travelled to Yorkshire for the away fixture & bizarrely suffered their joint 2nd worst ever defeat. Dave Hickson scored EFCs 2 consolation goals.
1980 - Everton 3-1 Bolton Wanderers. A big win for Gordon Lee’s Blues in the battle against the drop. Goals from Gary Megson, Peter Eastoe & Brian Kidd sealed the win.
1966 - Everton 2-0 Man City. The Blues were victorious in a FA Cup Quarter Final 2nd Replay, held at the neutral venue of Molyneux, Wolverhampton. Fred Pickering & Derek Temple scored for EFC.
983 - Everton 3-1 Stoke City. An Easter Monday afternoon victory at Goodison for the Blues, as they beat Stoke thanks to 2 goals from Kevin Sheedy & 1 from Graeme Sharp.
1982 - Nottingham Forest 0-1 Everton. A good away win for Howard Kendall’s Blues in the league at the City Ground, with EFC youngster Steve McMahon scoring the only goal of the game.
1904 - Everton 5-2 Liverpool. A Good Friday derby at Goodison was a good day for the Blues! Alex Young scored 4 & Sam Wolstenholme scored 1 as EFC thrashed the reds.
1984 - Everton 1-0 Southampton. An Andy Gray goal secured a league win, in what was a preview of the FA Cup Semi Final between the same teams, to be held at Highbury 2 weeks later.
Mar 31, 1975 - Everton 1-0 Coventry City. A huge day in the title race. A Martin Dobson goal sealed a win that took EFC top of the league with just 5 games to go. The Blues would go on to win just 1 of their remaining 5 games & finished 4th.
2000 - It was reported by the media that the reason Paul Gerrard had replaced Thomas Myhre as EFC goalkeeper from Mar 11 onwards was to save the Blues having to pay Myhre’s former club Viking Stavanager an additional £300,000, if Myhre made an 80th appearance for EFC.
Mar 28, 1997 - The fallout from Joe Royle’s resignation from the previous day continued, with the news EFC were targeting Barcelona boss Bobby Robson to be the next EFC manager. Johan Cruyff was also rumoured to be on EFCs shortlist.
1970 - Everton 5-2 Chelsea. The Blues took a huge step towards clinching the league title with a thrashing of Chelsea at Goodison. Joe Royle scored twice, whilst there were goals from Alan Ball, Howard Kendall & Alan Whittle.
Mar 27, 1963 - Gary Stevens was born. The legendary Everton right back scored 13 goals in 293 appearances for the club, in a trophy laden 7 seasons, 1981-1988, becoming a key part of the great 1980s Everton side.
