Old Everton Pictures

Looks like the sight lines of the old Main Stand were better than today's....
In fact, I'll bet that with the old one they could've built exec boxes underneath whilst retaining a lot of seating on the old terrace. For the 15-20 years that the new stand gave us increased seating, it's held us back for longer.
i.e. when exec boxes started to be introduced everywhere

Kinda makes you wonder why they ever did it really when you see that view as well ?

Agree, although at the time it was considered to be very modern and up to date - for example the escalators! It also provided much more office and entertaining space than the old Main Stand. Was interested to read the other day that a cantilever roof could have been added for £100,000 extra

Where did you read that?

It was a very sore point with my dad who said from the word go it was flawed because of the posts. The idea of the new stand was good but someone made a real error of judgement allowing a reduction in the quality of the views. We spent ages trying to find seats as good as we had in the original stand. Never really achieved it because the posts were so much bigger.

My recollection was that it was going to be cantilevered and the fact it wasn't only became clear near the end of its construction.

One other innovation in the stand (alongside what I think were elevators not escalators) was a pre match warm up area, a sort of mini 5-a-side pitch.
