Roger Kirkpatrick AKA Mr Pickwick
Rumour has it that in one Leeds Utd v Man Utd game, Denis Law was showboating and ended up getting kneed in the back by Norman Hunter. Law was rolling around and complaining to Kirkpatrick. The ref apparently lent over Law and said "Oh come on Denis, you deserved that. Now get up"

..I understand Law specifically requested Kirkpatrick refereee his testimonial game when he retired so there must have been some respect there. The good old days.

MY favourite ref used to pick the ball up and pace ten yards for a free kick and sit on the ball till the players were the right distance no spray foam in those dayslol

...apparently he could run faster going backwards than he could going forwards. The game was richer for the likes of him.

...not certain, but that might be that little fat referee who would do funny looking sprints during the game. I think his name was Roger Kirkpatrick. Just ‘googled’ him, no longer with us he died aged 81. He was a real character.

It was Kirkpatrick. He had a fair bit of timber on him, and that's being kind to him. The thing about the sprinting was that he ran backwards at speed. The Street End chanting "poser, poser" as he did it.

I think the story was and correct me if I'm wrong,it was in the lead up to the 1977 league cup final,we'd booked a park to train on but a ladies hockey team had double booked it,hence Gordon Lee and sir john being frogmarched offlol
