….part of an aeroplane found in sand dunes near Formby has been identified as from a US plane that crashed in 1944 killing its pilot, WH Vallee;

Happened a few times this, realise it's old pics etc, but a B29 crashed at Bleaklow in the Peak district. In terms of plane distances, it's only a few minutes flight time.

….that plane was apparently based at RAF Woodvale, Formby.

…yep, I thought so too. I studied it for quite a while wondering what happened to them all, especially with the war of all wars just a few years away.
