Yes remember that pub but never went in there! Give you three guesses why! Near by was The Dive, The Dart, The Old Royal, The Duck House and a few more but never The Magic Clock!

Well she was either getting married across the road in the church,which seems unlikely, or waiting for the 61 bus or tram!….West Derby Village, hardly changed although I doubt that lady is waiting for the chippy;

I saw an international match at Goodison Park which was part of the Festival of Britain celebrations, England v Portugal, Bill Nicholson scored in the first minute, the only time he played for England, England won 5-2.….1951 Festival of Britain, ante-aircraft light turned onto the Anglican Cathedral;

I remember Willie Hennie very well but fortunately a long time after this photograph was taken!
Ah yes The Maj, spent many a night there and a few matinees, as well as The Kings further down London Road and The Hippy (Hippodrome) not far away along with quite a few more Picture Houses ( cinema’s ) in that area, happy days Eggs!
I take it you entered "Search for a soccer star" like we all did? Hard to find much details about it now apart from an interview with the overall winner somewhere on the web. Great days.….no, I think we’re talking about the same lad; Ronnie Madine. He was a pro but I don’t think he ever made a first team appearance.

Haha forgot all about that, if I remember right didn’t you have to collect coupons from the Echo (pink ?) wasn’t the winner a lad called Tommy or Bobby Tynan or something something like that.I take it you entered "Search for a soccer star" like we all did? I think i was 12 or 13?….ha, ha, no I was in a fortunate position to be high-profile and there was quite a few clubs after me in those days.
Yes definitely, Degsy, a street education can add much more to your school education and is funnier for a start, I learned plenty in both places but learned more about people on the streets!Part of my childhood too, only a small part, but I feel my life experience wouldve been the poorer without those years I spent wandering around London Rd, Islington, Shaw St, Everton etc in the 60s.
Yes, Tommy was the lad. Some great players in that last 20.Haha forgot all about that, if I remember right didn’t you have to collect coupons from the Echo (pink ?) wasn’t the winner a lad called Tommy or Bobby Tynan or something something like that.
Ah The Boars Head it was a great little local pub fora long time but near the end of it’s life span it became run down and was mostly open after hours before the days of all day drinking, went in a few times waiting for different pubs to open, abusing the two brothers who ran the pub really but needs much. When I worked on the new hospital being built on Prescott St. we took a fella from down south to The Boars Head, after settling down and having a good look at the gaff he said “ I’ve been in pubs all the globe but Jesus never been in one like this” I think the rogues gallery drinking in there didn’t improve the decour either though it added to the atmosphere!
