The sad thing with photos from the late 1800's & around the turn of the century, so many of those young lads became cannon fodder on Western Front.….Gerard St, 1890s. Lots of pics from that time showing youngsters with no shoes;

The Silver Blades ice rink - I went once, hired boots etc - lucky to come out alive TBH - lol -
The hire boots were lethal ......no H&S in those days ......the theme was they linked arms & the circ!e of skaters got bigger& bigger going around in a massive circle - as I entered the rink for the first time - I was grabbed & was on the very outer of the circle the speed was horrific as I had never skated before - then the guy let go off me.......- I then hurt!ed to the wooden barrier & went as over fit over the wooden barrier into a laughing crowd.....….surprisingly, a place I never went to. Saying that, I used to get off the bus at the stop outside every morning before crossing over to Sheil Rd and getting the 26 to finish my journey to school.
