The sad thing with photos from the late 1800's & around the turn of the century, so many of those young lads became cannon fodder on Western Front.

Hi mate don’t want to question your judgment but that old pic looks like the view looking up Ranelagh st looking up towards the Adelphi with central station on the right, or am I totally miss reading the pic.
…its a very good shout, I certainly recall a Golden Phoenix Chinese above the car park in Hanover St, so it could’ve relocated there from that where it is on that pic. Not sure I remember the little bend in the road near the bottom of Bold St as it appears on there.
I’m sure other posters will have a view, I’ll see if we can confirm your suggestion.
….found this pic of Houghton St (1949) and the ‘dog leg’ turn in the original is consistent with this as is the shape of some of the buildings on the right. Not a definitive answer;

….surprisingly, a place I never went to. Saying that, I used to get off the bus at the stop outside every morning before crossing over to Sheil Rd and getting the 26 to finish my journey to school.
The hire boots were lethal ......no H&S in those days ......the theme was they linked arms & the circ!e of skaters got bigger& bigger going around in a massive circle - as I entered the rink for the first time - I was grabbed & was on the very outer of the circle the speed was horrific as I had never skated before - then the guy let go off me.......- I then hurt!ed to the wooden barrier & went as over fit over the wooden barrier into a laughing crowd.....
