Yeah but with the greatest of respect, you dont honestly think I thought New Zealand would beat you, did you?

obviously not and they weren't in the same group so its not like there was much chance of a meeting unless both teams did well, but i took it as hyperbole implying the US would perform poorly, which definitely didn't happen. there's no point in beating this to death though.

back on topic, assuming the crisis of losing your manager 5 days before the season starts is enough to push villa out of contention for those top spots, unless we royally cock up a place in europe should be pretty secure i would think.

Major POP! in the midlands.

I'm tellin you that Birmingham will go the same way as Villa in the financial stakes by the end of this season/next summer

Sorry D.

I reckon Hughes is gutted that he took the Fulham job and O'Neill is gutted he waited until Roy got the [Poor language removed] job.

Don't you think Al-Fayed will fund Hughes to prove a point to Woy? I do. Plus SW London is pretty attractive to rich footballers. With Villa getting it's finances in order, Fulham might actually be the better job right now, history aside.

These stats are just delicious, don't you think?

I <3 Moyes.

I think you gotta match that with wages though to mate, i would think outside the top four we're pretty good payers.

Listen to Neiler. He knows.

We're paying about £50million out in wages a season.

Aston Villa paying out £70million a season out in wages!

We've struck the right balance! And why not massively ramping up DEBT and wage spending last summer. We've allowed ourselves the space to try and get turnover up further in the meantime. Aston Villa just splurged the lot.

To put that into context thats the same on wages as Birmingham City make in turnover - TOTAL. And they're blowing the lot on wages and signing fees this summer!

Hence why I agree with Neiler's damning assessment of the Birmingham City situation, they're next after Villa to go POP!

O'Neil has never had the bottle to see anything through for the long term. Makes you realise again that Moyes is simply different class. Nobody could deliver more with what's at our disposal.

Have been analysing and contributing some powder to a Villa forum, surprisingly they are quite jovial about the situation and are not getting too messed up.
Good for them. Lets see what happens after a couple of bad results.
