2024/25 Orel Mangala

Just Zat mate I'd sign him all day for the right price.

So you would be happy to be playing deep while Mangala is at the club?

Because as @Eggs also pointed out, he will be a massive liability otherwise.

I think we can do much better even if we sit deep but to play front foot football with a midfielder who cant run and has no pace.

Thats suicide.

Zat it's not Mangalas fault we are playing deep it's a mix of the players mindset against bigger teams and the managers tactics. He is a lovely footballer, hasn't got pace, but not ALL players have to have pace, makes up for it with his composure on the ball, the only times we played football today were when Mangala or N'diaye were on the ball. And he has a decent shot on him. Give him a break, get better players around him.

I keep saying that i see he is composed and can pass a ball. We all agree on that.

Ndiaye can play forwards/backwards wide/central. He's got the athleticism as well as the ability. He's class, Branthwaite the same.

Mangala isnt that good a passer that he doesnt need to be able (or willing?) to run.

There are MANY posters here who want to sign him. At the same time those SAME posters want a different manager to play front foot attacking football.

Mangala will be exposed all game as he simply cannot run backwards. He cant turn, has no pace and loves to foul for no reason.

I think we can do MILES better than him. Im sure we can find the central midfield version of Branthwaite/Ndiaye.

Ive seen all this before when posters wanted Gomes signed...i didnt and got slagged.

Mangala to some is Gomes when he first signed.

….the way we play suits him because we sit deep. The one reservation I have is if we play more expansive because Mangala is as slow as an old boat (watch Joelinton run past him in the game at Goodison).
We need to see how he performs with someone like Garner or Tim alongside him. I really like the look of him, but there’s no denying he’s slow. If he can replace Gana Gueye, I’d sign him for the right price—around £20m, but no more.

Mangala is our best CM. He’s good going both ways. I can’t wait to see him with Jimmy Garner.

He’s a solid premier league midfield player. A much better all round option than Onana, who is being found out at Villa.

Sure Onanas upside might be he has a higher ceiling, but where we are; we need here and now, players who can seamless integrate into the team from the off.

Orel is proving to be a really astute loan signing, I’d be more than happy to pick him up if the fee is right or the structure of the deal can work in our favour.

Did you watch your mate Onana today? 🤣

Mangala looks like a Prem player. That’s more than some we have currently.

How quick is Alexis McAllister? How quick was Paul Scholes? How quick was Gareth Barry? How quick is Bruno at Newcastle? Having midfielders who are competent on the ball so you don't need to chase it so much is far more important than having pace. Garner has far more pace than Mangala but Mangala gives us much more control as he is miles better on the ball. A blend is obviously needed though throughout the team.

100% correct. It's more important to have actual footballers. Pace is seriously overrated as a key attribute. Lots of truly great players have not been great athletes. Football ability and nous is far more important. Mangala is very good on the ball. If we had a decent full back and a decent right winger he would be running games from centre mid.
