FOOTBALL ISN’T PLAYED BY STATS!!!
If Zat doesn't rate him then that seals it for me, sign him up .. Wannabe Steve Walsh . If he was 21 he'd be saying he was Pele
Aye, real good stuff this.Anyone heard that Mangala watched a few of our games before joining?
He met his compatriot, Amadou Onana and had a word with him for some advice on the area, squad and fans...
"They love a proper midfielder" were the words of 'Ama'.
He directed him to a host of videos Sean Dyche had recommended to him.
They showcased a former Goodison Park icon, 'man of steel' and twice winning Everton trophy lifting midfielder.
Orel watched the videos day and night of his games in the Royal Blue shirt.
He came back to training fully composed and launched a blistering assault of the mannequins placed around the pitch, unleashing ferocious 5 and 10 yard passes into their fake feet.
"What are you doing Orel" Dyche bellowed.
Orel Mangala explained how he had followed Onana's instructions and watched the recommended videos...
"Not when he was at Everton Orel" sighed Dyche...

Vinny Samways: the "foreign scum" who won the hearts of Las Palmas fans
Vinny Samways' career is something of an oddity. He remains far more renowned in Spain than England, revered today as one of Las Palmas’ greatest playersthesefootballtimes.co
You can’t be that binary though Zat. He is far from being our weakest player, and even if we did go ‘front foot’ we wouldn’t / couldn’t do it every single game. For 15/20 mill he would be an excellent squad member to bring in for those games where we would choose to play deeper. I do see your point, and he does have glaring weaknesses, but I would counter that by saying his strengths are in very short supply in our squad at the moment (and that shortage will be magnified if all those on end of contract do in fact leave). For me he seems a sensible purchase provided the price and wages are reasonable.I've said several times the same, that he sits and is composed with his short passes.
Thats all ive seen from him, nothing more that stands out. Nothing to make up for his obvious weaknesses.
What do you think happens once a player gets past him, he's out of the game? Because for me he wont be able to get back if the system is anything other than deep.
So, playing him we will be constrained as we will have to setup in a way that allows him to sit deep and be protected.
I'm seeing multiple posters say they want to play on the front foot & also that they want to sign Mangala.
That makes no sense.

You think Joe Parkinson could play front foot football? How old are you? He was every bit as slow as Mangala. We would all love to sign a Gary Speed or Arteta but they're not available. Mangala is doing a decent job and is currently one of our better players. If we can't someone better for similar money then we should, if we can't then he would be a decent addition for the right price.I think this is a very fair appraisal.
I've given him praise for the composure and short passing. Of course, these are clear strengths in comparison to e.g Doucoure and this gives a different balance to the team.
However, for me I want to see an Everton side with bite in the midfield as well as composed passing. I was one of the only handful of posters who wanted Adam Wharton signed a while before he went to Palace.
The negative comments at the time about Wharton were that he "wasnt mobile" but he was far more mobile than Mangala.
Currently were seeing an anti-Dyche sentiment which makes me double down on Mangala -- as you and @Eggs seemingly concur for example that he would be a liability in a non-deep sitting role.
I find it obtuse that posters want us to play front foot football and also want to sign a player with this profile. For some to post relentlessly about "how far weve fallen" and yet praise Mangala for such limited football is bewildering to me.
I miss the Joe Parkinsons, Gary Speeds, Mikel Artetas who could do this role standing on their head...while also doing a heck of a lot more.
Thats the player we need to use a budget towards.

Ok, keep doubling down. There is no chance Parkinson was "as slow as Mangala", none. For one very simple reason, he used to charge around the midfield in a pair harrying opposition players no matter who they were. That man had so much desire that to compare him to a slut is disprespectful.
The saving grace with Mangala is that Lyon need to sell players and he wants to be back in the premier league.
They wont be able to get a profit on PSR for below £20mil so hopefully its a non-starter.
I agree 100%, but until our brave backroom team can identify one and coax them to join us, I don't think signing Mangala would be a catastrophe, I also agree that a forward thinking high pressing side would be the ideal. But I reckon we are at least three windows away from having any chance of that, so Orel isnt the worst we could make. For what its worth, I would donate a kidney for the likes of a prime Joe ParkinsonI think this is a very fair appraisal.

He’s not the only midfielder we have though. The three we are playing at the moment all make different contributions. In combination they tend not to get run past and I don’t think we have been sitting especially deep since Branthwaite came back, we play further up the field when he plays.I've said several times the same, that he sits and is composed with his short passes.
