2024/25 Orel Mangala

I'm not fussed what the style of play is (it could be Dycheball every game) as long as its effective and progresses us up the league each season.

Speaking hypothetically, if Dyche was retained and we continued with the midfield 3 then we'd have:

Garner, Armstrong & Iroegbunam contracted.

Gana & Doucoure out of contract (both may yet receive one year extentions)

Mangala whose loan will expire.

I think it would be interesting to see how the first 3 names can blend into the midfield before thinking of any permanent deal for Mangala.

Secondly i'd assess how the out of contract players receiving one year extensions may allow us to bring in one signing rather than Mangala + not replacing the two.

I'd say Arsenal and Chelsea games we were under siege for fair amounts of time. City wasnt quite as worrisome even though, ironically they had the better chances and actually scored.

As above, we have 6 players on the books with one of them on loan and two out of contract. Theres alot to be assessed before talking about signing a loan player.

The current setup makes Mangala look just as good as Keane used to. Once you remove the key benefit (composed passing) and look at everything else, theres not much at all there.
City and Arsenal sniffing around Armstrong.

Zat it's not Mangalas fault we are playing deep it's a mix of the players mindset against bigger teams and the managers tactics. He is a lovely footballer, hasn't got pace, but not ALL players have to have pace, makes up for it with his composure on the ball, the only times we played football today were when Mangala or N'diaye were on the ball. And he has a decent shot on him. Give him a break, get better players around him.
Agree mate. I think he is turning in to an important player for us. Him and Gueye are playing very well and are a big factor in our current improved defensive performances …

Cos someone stole a march on him in one game and he's now classed as slow ....wtaf.

Players used to breeze past one of our best ever midfielders ( Gareth Barry ) every game , it usually resulted in him fouling them . Hence the amount of cards he received.
But he more than made up for that with his positioning and distribution, I see the same qualities in Mangala.
Positives far outweigh the negatives here , plus I wouldn't even class him as slow.

100% correct. Peter Reid and Bracewell weren't exactly quick. Some of our fans can tolerate players being out of position, continually taking poor touches and making poor passes but if a quicker player runs past you you're automatically [Poor language removed]. Mangala is a good footballer. He's currently one of the first names on the team sheet. Positioning and ball control are far far more important than pace.

The soon to be sacked one said in his bonkers presser that Mangala had a personal issue during the week.
Strange he was allowed to start if he had such an issue.
I'm hoping it's something as trivial as him telling his manager that he was a clueless bell during half time.
Hopefully he's back for the next league game. He's one of the best of an awful bunch.
