Yes that's the only explanation. He had them over a barrel and agreed to them getting some compensation for him. Which is better than just doing a runner at the end of his contract I suppose.

Don't understand why the agent would have inserted the £8m buy out clause (especially when Delph is worth a lot more than that and clubs would have paid more) because at the end of the day it's in his best interest to get as much as possible because he gets a cut.

At the time I believe he wanted to stay at villa for the next few years but also wanted a reasonable fee ifnhe wanted out. Then they didn't sign clev and now benteke gone, he was like I'm out of here
