Is it just me that finds Arsenal signing Willian on what I assume is a very highly paid contract gross after them laying off loads of staff?

Yes. Very.
Good signing for them though football wise. Still a decent player.

That does seem to be a pretty common view of him. Which I think is pretty harsh. I’m too young to remember Ray Wilkins’ playing career apart from his QPR days but I remember back in the 90s commentators would remark on the average fan dismissing him as a crab. Not sure if there is a basis of comparison there. Some of the best coaches in the modern game rate Winks and IIRC the Spanish FA tried to get him to play for Spain at one point so he’s obviously got something about him.

I think it's big time B.S.

Also lower than the amounts being bandied around for Rice who is a vastly inferior player IMO.

I've seen Winks play 40 - 50 times and I've seen Rice two or three times.
Winks has managed to get 7/10 the same amount of times.

Wilkins was always a quality player, just wasn't appreciated by many at the time (although the England managers stuck by him.)

As Yid4Life said, Winks maybe looks worse because he plays with Sissoko (and he also isn't playing in he's best posistion) but it could be that Sissoko looks worse cos he's playing with Winks lol) but after saying all of that, as long as Winks and Sissoko no longer start games together, I would be happy enough for Winks to be given another season to prove himself and we may have a fair few Europa League games for squad players to start in.
