Barca wrote him a check from the Messi money they had set aside. If you're not getting Messi, that's the next best thing on the market. Either might break unexpectedly, but you're buying a top-tier playmaker either way.

Frankly not sure what Gundogan is getting them. You're already the best team in Spain and he's not what's separating you from winning in Europe. He's a good player and all but he's not transcendent.

I guess. And Barca act like they have unlimited money so they won't care, but to me they needed to add an elite winger that can get you 10 goals and 10 assists. Midfield is fine.

I guess you can always hope Dembele stays healthy.

I don't think they have the money to compete in Europe right now. I also think Xavi knows what he's doing. By far the smartest footballer on the planet, on the pitch.
