I don't think they have the money to compete in Europe right now. I also think Xavi knows what he's doing. By far the smartest footballer on the planet, on the pitch.
Then I'd suggest save a little money by not giving a 32 year old who doesn't move your level up a fresh contract. Maybe you'll be back to competing in a year or two.

They have no plan anymore but it probably won't matter.

Declan Rice is a great player but no defensive midfielder in the world is worth £80m+ nor ever will be. That sort of money should be reserved for your game changers.
I’d argue that the right defensive midfielder could be a game changer if that is the piece of the jigsaw that’s missing. An effective midfielder that can stop other teams attacks and start their own is a game changer. Not that I agree Rice is 80m quids worth.

We have overpaid for a lot of players over the last decade. I think Arsenal are overpaying here as well. He's not a 65m player to me at all
Has done more and achieved more than AG ever has or ever will and he went for £45m. So I don't think £65m is that far wide of the mark in today's crazy world.

But I also think he'll smash it at Arsenal if played correctly. Saka, Havertz, Odegaard and Rice or another top DM could be lethal.

Madrid will bounce back soon enough. He's a La Liga insurance policy, IMO.
The midfield Madrid and attacking output they have put together is sensational. Add Kane or Mbappe to replace Benzema and there's your La Liga winners next season, I think.

Newcastle massively overpaid for Gordon. It was good business for us, but it doesn't mean Havertz is worth 65m. I haven't seen anything yet to tell me that Havertz is going to be a top player in England. He's good, but not a player to push Arsenal towards a title.

They also paid at the time a club record £40m for Joellinton, fours years ago. For two of those years, everyone thought that was massively overpaying. Dropped him back into midfield and the rest is history.

Drop Havertz back into midfield, rather than striker (as was for Leverkusen and the national team) and the rest will be history IMO.

Aye, I don't think he's anywhere near the top end of Premier League players. Very poor for Germany in the past 18 months, and terrible for Chelsea. £65m, jeez, just should abroad ffs.

Absolute firesale with probably about another 5 to go

He's not going to play his correct position at Arsenal. They'll make him a #8

Well, his natural position is midfield....used in an attacking role....so an 8 or a 10 depending on the system a team plays.

74% of his career games have been played as a midfielder.
The remaining 26% was as a strker / centre forward.
This remaining 26% ONLY came while playing for Chelsea.

He has been completely messed around at Chelsea, and under-used and under-rated player becasue of his Chelsea games.

Fair play to the mad yank at Chelsea - he’s off his nut but seems to be finding as many naughty ways around ffp as possibly - the Saudi relationship is as bent as a two bob note.

Still certain we will be the only club hounded and sanctioned by the league for an ffp breach, while Chelsea and city crack on.
To be fair, i don't blame them for doing what they are doing.

They have found a loop hole or a gap in the laws that they are taking advantage of!
I'd love for us to of been that clever in terms of Usmanov buying up a couple of Russian sides and buying Cenk Tosun off us for £50m.

You have to blame the law makers and the PL for not keeping tabs on these sort of things
