Why shocked? He wants to play in the CL and win trophies/leagues.

I mean, with what Villa are building, they’ve got as much chance as anyone of cracking that.

I don’t know, just maybe something about being a hometown kid, and captain and potential of being best Villa player ever and a legend… just seems appealing. Hero for life.

or going to City, and whilst winning pots, not guaranteed 90 mins, will get medals but as soon as he’s retired, he’s forgotten.

I see the appeal, but I’m choosing my hometown club, who worship me, over City.

They really don't have the same guaranteed chance at titles/Europe as Man City though, do they? Villa have lost him and replaced, so far, with Buendia and an unproven Bailey. They finished below us last season but let's not pretend they're going to suddenly push the top 6.

Even if he moves he won't be forgotten.

No, of course not. But it’s something rare which Grealish has at Villa, he really could have gone in to be their best player ever (well in the modern era), I know city will give you guaranteed medals and a shot at the CL realistically.

I just feel gutted about it tbh, you just know that if we were pull our fingers out, and get a decent youth player again, they could just be pulled as soon as a bigger team wants them.

Just wanted Grealish to be the start of players turning down the big lads and making a more overall enjoyable competition.

I’m not saying they’re getting too 6 either btw, I’m just looking at the so called “big 6” and excluding Leicester, the team I feel offers the most threat is Villa with Grealish.

They are building on his anticipated fee. I'm sure he was aware of that.

This is very rare except for a few Barcelona players. I mean Baines, Coleman? Are they legends though? Bit weird to get this downhearted over an Aston Villa player that's only got 200 games under his belt for them.

Baines and Coleman aren't the same. They didn't come through with Everton (academy doesn't count), they made their debuts elsewhere.

Whilst Grealish isn't a Rooney, he's the best English player around at the moment (In my opinion), and Villa been building around him for years. I'm more disappointed that we're in a position where we can't spent 20p, but all the big sides are just pinching the best players. Not weird, just saddening to realise with each passing day we'll be getting even farther away than ever from competing for a title.

That whilst there's loyalty, every player will get their head turned.

Kane's different, he's accomplished loads with Spurs, and their on a seeming downturn.

Are they? Last time i checked, Villa were backed by the second richest owners in the league. They could very well have done a Moshiri, and spent wildly to get where they needed to be.

Why did you ever have this belief anyway?

I’ll be shocked if Grealish leaves, which now seems likely.

Stuck by them in the Championship, when Spurs went after him, and then in the bad years with Bruce and now he leaves?

Just as I thought Villa were building something.

As much as I'd like to see players like Grealish stay at their home clubs, I'd be much more surprised if he turned down City. Players move on and we won't see many 1 club men anymore. The current financial arangements in football are totally aimed at maintaining the status quo as well. Competition is not what they want.

Villa have already started spending the money as well.

Mad the way that football fans think

We had a crap season, and ended up in a crap position in the league - Besides this, Aston Villa finished below us

They are selling their best player and have so far replaced with him a lad from a Championship side and another lad from Germany

Yet, they are mooted to be part of some groundbreaking, exciting 'project'

They'll finish below us again this season - with both of us somewhere around 8-12th
