Other clubs transfers

Just a player who's hype always shone brighter than his skill and seems to fail upwards. How Liverpool got anywhere near the amount they got for him is miraculous.
No clue. He did put on a show though. Very skilled player and with they way the market was back 18 months ago and still to this point, you can see how a big club would make that splash.

That’s the thing though. Every non RS fan in the league knew he was a MOTD highlight reel player who will score several amazing goals a season and not contribute to much else. Fans and even pundits were saying that they might be better off without him when Barça came in. It’s the greatest transfer of all time and almost a robbery.

Little chance of Williams going to Bristol City

Lee Johnson said things would be decided by the back end of the week. Due diligence being done.
The situation with Ashley is that there’s nothing definite. We’ve had him in and we’ve tested him,” said Johnson following the fine Bristol City victory.

“We’ve had a look at him and he’s had a look at us. Both have got to make a decision.

“We haven’t gone into negotiations or anything like that. His body fat’s good.

“I said to him you’re not on trial but your hips are on trial. After all the testing we’ve done we’ll just see where we are.

“We’re quite relaxed about it. We’ll see where we get to at the back end of the week.”

We replaced John Stones with him ffs

Really, why, do they know how bad he has been,or is it just because hes a higher profile player than Bristol City have ?
There was that period where his was always the name put forward as the answer to Arsenal being a gang of farts, which probably sticks in people's minds more than his Europa League exploits at Everton. I think he was Wales captain at Euro 2016, too.

It seems to take a solid five years of abject failure before players reach the point where they can no longer get a contract somewhere.

Probably a bit of both. Plus he would be "free". I dont follow them as closely as I used to, so maybe they have a CB issue a bit like us. 1st choice, fine, but then a bit crap. If that is the case, I can see their point.

Wales defender and national captain Ashley Williams has joined the club on a short-term basis.
The six-foot former Swansea City, Everton and Stoke City centre-back will boost Lee Johnson’s defensive options until mid-January with the option to extend his contract.
Williams, 35, brings a wealth of Premier League experience having made 241 top-flight appearances on top of his time in the Championship, as he links up with his new teammates in the first month of the current campaign.
Head Coach Lee Johnson said: “I’d like to offer Ashley a very warm welcome. His experience will be invaluable, both on and off the pitch, and we’re all looking forward to getting to work with him.”

Williams’ career began at Stockport County before he helped Swansea reach the second tier via the 2007/08 League One play-offs. An instant hit in South Wales, Williams made the move permanent for a then club-record fee.
After eight seasons with the Swans which included top-flight football after their 2010/11 promotion, Williams linked up with Everton for three seasons, before signing with the Potters on loan for the 2018/19 campaign.

Williams has been twice named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year (2009/10, 2010/11) and won the League Cup with Swansea in 2012/13 following his Championship play-offs win to reach the Premier League in 2010/11.
