Charlie Austin is on one hundred thousand pounds a week at Southampton.

Nothing more needs to be said.

is he though? That was something David Gold tweeted, hardly gospel. He also needs to appease the hammers fans who are undoubtably frustrated they didn't sign him.

Maybe Austin just doesn't fit our system. We generally don't play with 2 strikers at the same time and I doubt Austin would do much out wide. I think versatility is a good quality and one which this lad seems to have, whilst I wouldn't call Austin the most versatile of forwards.

this is true, but we have so many wingers already it would seem odd to sign someone on that basis, especially for so much money.

Do you believe lizards run the earth?

yes

If he links up with Rom on the left then it's not odd for me. Rom's been at his best when Koné's been playing, but Arouna's not really scoring enough and isn't great back up, up top on his own. By all accounts this lad is very hard working, good on the ball and helps others score too; seems like the best of both worlds.

This is all speculative of course, but it doesn't seem odd to me that we might opt for him over Austin.

It's just a lot of money, for that I'd expect to bring in a starter as opposed to a jack of all trades type.
