how you can mistake gana for niasse is beyond me

the names look nothing alike, and one is short and really good at football whilst the other is lanky and good at nothing

'who's that new signing for everton who looks boss again?'

'the black one'

badly racist from the mirror that

It might also be an issue with the WordPress or whatever they are using, as much the same text appears on the Echo correctly

At least they chose someone of the same nationality? They might have just searched Everton Senegal and gone with the first link? It's the Mirror, so journalistic standards are questionable anyway.

Alternatively, the author is living in an alternative reality where Niasse is actually boss, and has scored a hat-trick in each game we've played thus far, and we sold Lukaku to Chelsea for a Tesco meal deal.

Ummmm, Thai green curry!

The mirror is definitely just trolling us now.
Just read the article. In fairness, it's quite complimentary to Everton overall given the usual tripe they write, and they've even corrected the Niasse/Geuye error.

As regards Niasse, he really is the worst players we've ever purchased. I doubt that there has ever been a topic in which every Evertonian is in a 100% agreement.

Was Oumar's missus being from Manchester the reason he got a work permit?

He doesn't meet the international appearances criteria (8 caps, FIFA rank 39, Senegal played abar 17 games in 2 year), possibly because he is not actually a footballer, but I don't know how rigorously that is enforced.

From http://www.inbrief.co.uk/football-law/footballer-work-permits/

Which players do need work permits?

Footballers from outside the EU must still obtain a work permit if they wish to play for English football clubs. Every non-EU footballer must successfully apply for a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) with the FA before the Home Office will consider issuing a work permit.
The system has recently been tightened and now only non-EEA players who are internationally established at the highest level, and whose employment will make a significant contribution to the development of their sport at the highest level, are allowed to play in the UK. One of the reasons for the rule change was that only 58% of football players who were given work visas played any top-flight football in their second season.
What are the criteria which will be used?

Until 2015, football players needed to have played in at least 75% of their country’s senior international matches over the previous two years to play in the UK. Eligibility for a GBE now depends on a national team’s FIFA ranking, as follows:
Official FIFA Ranking Required % of international matches in past 2 yrs
FIFA 1-10 30% and above
FIFA 11-20 45% and above
FIFA 21-30 60% and above
FIFA 31-50 75% and above
In the case of players aged 21 or under at the time of application, the period is reduced to one year. The aim is to make it easier for young, outstanding talent to grow their game in the UK.
If a club’s application is rejected, there is an appeals process. The Exceptions Panel is the appeals body which will consider, on a points based system, the player’s experience and value before deciding whether the player can join the club, regardless of their failed application. A stricter assessment of relevant objective criteria will now be applied in an appeal.

Even if a player doesn’t meet the criteria, he can still qualify for a work permit, but in order to do so, he needs to go before a so-called ‘exception-panel’. The panel, consisting of a legal official and two colleagues with professional football experience, will then evaluate the player based on six criteria (See Table 1).

Table 1: The Expectations Panel’s criteria for non-EU players seeking work permit.

Each of these criteria gives between one and three points, and the applicant will need at least four points in order to obtain work permit. The new system was implemented to lower the amount of non-EU players in England and to develop English talent instead.

He qualified due to the new exceptions panel rule.

Unfortunately Niasse is pointless

Hope Niasse gets a start tomorrow and goes on a goalscoring rampage. We need him to for either a successful everton or to get some money back :)
