How many players have come over to the premier league from a foreign country and looked pretty poor and developed into decent players?

I can name Fellaini and Pienaar for starters.

I'll admit that he hasnt looked good, very awkward and clumsy but I really cant believe that a player would be that bad who won Russias player of the season. Let him get a full pre season under his belt and see what Mr Koeman does with him.

Thats the thing though mate, and it was something i pointed out soon as the first link to him happend and that was stated, he never did win any player of the year aaaward in Russia, he never even made the shortlist for it, he never even won his own (6th placed teams) player of the season award, and didn't even come in the top 4 on the voting - and thats the award done by the fans - which additionally questions just how popular he was with them (something else i've seen erroniously stated).

That award lie was given out to hoodwink people from looking to deeply into the player - as a lot (not saying you are one fo them) see that he 'won' this award and immediately assume he must be a pretty good player, question really should be - what player worth his salt would either have his management/agent spread a lie such as that or when it was reported wouldn't instantly make sure that the 'misunderstanding' was corrected.

It's like Barkley walking round telling people he won the Ballon d'or award, absolutely laughable that no one at the club or connected with the player thought such a outright lie didn't need sorting

I done a pretty bug post on it around the time mate, from my best guess - it came from some rag reporting him moving to us - prior to him signing, and came from a reporter who had badly google translated a Russia media piece, which had said for the current season he had been one of the players so far of it, same piece mentioned that he had won a player of the month award, that got reported in Britain by this reporter and from that point on - such is the nature of the meida that it was copy pasted into every story about him until it became a accepted fact no pone bothered to actually check if it was correct

Think about it logically though, how many players win a player of the season award for the current season when at the time he moved the season was only half way through... His team wasn't in the top 4 at that point either and he wasn't in the top 3 scorers in the division even at the time.

The season before he scored i believe 4 goals, his team finished i believe about 6th in the league as well, sound like a player of the season award candidate to you? In comparision Hulks team won the league and he finished top scorer with 15 for comparision, Naisses teamate Manny Fernandes finsihed top scorer for Lokomotiv with 7 btw, Naisse was down in 33rd place on the scoring chart that season

Hahaha, you got to it quicker, just tagged you in my post saying you had done a post about it.

If its true he didnt win it then Sky in particular have egg on their face. Trying to find it online there isnt really any definitive on it.

What ever the case I still wouldnt mind seeing him after a full pre season and after Koeman has done some coaching with him. If hes still turd then fair enough but players can take time to find their feet.

Lets be honest, Sky have a massive ability of incorrectly reporting facts or forcing things through to suit their "markets"

I genuinely struggle to believe anything they come out with unless its directly confirmed by multiple people and the club itself.

he own 2 player of the month awards mate

The seasonal awards in Russia are given out at the end of the season, the ones for the clubs own awards are voted for by their supporters, for Lokomotic Corluka won it - Naisse wasn't reported what % he got, but i know for certain he wasn't in the listed top 4 on votes, which went down to about 5% of the vote for 4th place

The Russian player of the season award - they don't have a league awarded one, since the old soviet times the awards have been given by 2 of the top sporting (footy centric) sporting publications, and Naisse wasn't even mentioned in the ones for the end of the 14/15 season.

Like I say while weird, it doesnt change my stance that it takes players time to settle sometimes. Ive had people mock me for not writing him off yet but we'll see soon enough what will happen with him.

think we just have to see what RK thinks when he see's him in training. Now, from what little we saw he seemed well off the pace and quality to be playing in the premiership, but, he's moved to a new country, was involved with a squad that it appears was at odds with the managers,so settling in and trying to do what RM wanted on the pitch wouldn't have been easy.
No rush to sell him just yet imo,we might be pleasantly surprised.

I doubt we are going to see any movement till the players are back.

After one session he might buzz his tits off and sell him, or might think he is the next Mane. Who knows...

I don't think that will happen, I am expecting a season loan to Russia in the not to distant future.

Each to their own opinion really mate, i've just seen him a lot more than i think anyone else on here has so have a very firm opinion about him even before we signed him tbf

as for media reporting innacuracies will share a amusing story from the 1970's fromt he world of Boxing mate, totally off topic maybe, but in light of us discussing a media error that went uncheked maybe shed some light on how poor the research is on such things across all sports...

There was another Sol Nazerman and he was one of the most sensational heavyweights that nobody ever saw before his tragic death in 1972. Sol, known as “Bagel Boy,” was the devilish invention of Elliott Harvith, the maverick and gorgeously irreverent editor of theAmerican Boxing News, who racked up a 44-fight unbeaten record for his hard punching prospect until reality caught up with the charade.

Even a composite picture of Sol was published, showing a bear of a man drowning in his own chest hair, blessed with mighty muscles, a rakish moustache and the Star of David on his trunks.

The New York State Commission suddenly took an interest in the spectacular rise of Sol Nazerman and wondered why nobody else had ever seen or heard of him. Details of his dynamite wins had only ever appeared in the American Boxing News, taking place in small towns that nobody could find on the map.

The heavyweight entrance of NY commissioner Edwin Dooley into the Nazerman saga put Elliott Harvith in quite a sticky spot. Sol had to go. His death had to be as inventive as his birth, and so it was that on the terrible night of May 18, 1972, Nazerman was driving his Volkswagen when he was knocked out and killed by his 45th and final opponent—the aptly named Mack Truck.

It was all enormous fun while it lasted. I was seventeen at the time and fell for the hokum completely. What a fighter this man Nazerman was! He just kept knocking everyone out and was hurtling towards a collision with world champion, Joe Frazier. Suddenly, tragically, I learned that I would never see a Frazier-Nazerman superfight. The headline in theAmerican Boxing News came as a terrific jolt: BAGEL BOY DEAD.

Wrote Harvith: “Truly a waste and a sad end to the man who could whip any man in the world and was an easy cinch to defeat Joe Frazier in a few months for the world’s title. As an everlasting tribute, a giant bagel with the number 44 inscribed on it will be placed on Sol’s grave.”

When the truth about Sol Nazerman eventually came out, I didn’t feel too bad about being duped, for I was in very good company. Believe it or not, Sol actually got into The Ring Record Book and Boxing Encyclopedia, which must have brought a cackle of pleasure from the mischievous Elliott Harvith. Nazerman’s results also began to pop up in the world’s oldest boxing publication, the British Boxing News.

Harvith had made a big point. The whole raison d’etre of the American Boxing News was to rant and rail against the curses of bad fights, bad officials, incompetent stiffs, lazy record keepers and the general malaise that allowed the fictitious Sol Nazerman to lead quite a merry old life before being found out. After Elliott Harvith there would be another maverick in Malcolm (Flash) Gordon who would shatter The Ring’s squeaky clean image by exposing the ratings-for-sale scandal.

at the time of his errrrm death, he had actually just cracked the world rating for one of the 2 governing bodies pat the time and Fraziers people where keen on staging a fight in new york (due to the large jewish population)

if the boss doesn't rate him he's gone...and I dare say a few more with better reps than his will be on their way out too.

One of the benefits of a new broom is that the Debit Vs Credit cost of these out goings is sort of 'glossed over' in 'Honeymoon period' as a cost of doing business.

Should take it out of Martinez's payout.
