Won't apologise for thinking this was an utterly shambolic signing because that was the only reasonable conclusion for a long time.

I will however admit to being wrong and I've never been happier to do so.

Not because he's suddenly technically gifted or anything but rather, despite all the [Poor language removed] the club/fans gave him, he's still the one player you can count on to give it everything he's got on the pitch.

He's a perfect role model for younger players on how hard work beats talent if talent won't work hard.

Watching him play, it's almost as though the last thing that Premier League defenders expect to encounter is someone working their hardest at every turn. It genuinely throws them off.

However, I do think that eventually teams will begin to show him some respect, and his woeful technique will enable them to shut him down quite easily.

Hopefully that won't happen before January, though.

He does have an uncanny knack of wrong footing defenders, I think it’s through his sheer persistence

What you're forgetting mate, is that most Premier League defenders are actually badly average, and will always struggle against a striker that is constantly on the move and chasing them down. They'll always be susceptible to mistakes, and he's not one of those strikers you can mark out the game because he runs across the line all day.

HE CAME HERE AND DIDNT IMPRESS THE HYRARKY SO HE GOT STRIPPED OF HIS LOCKER AND SENT ON LOAN TO HULL WHERE HE WAS AN ABSOLUTE REVELATION IT SEEMS THAT KOEMAN MADE A MISTAKE AND PAST JUDGEMENT TOO EARLY WELL GUESS WHAT RONNY WHOSE GOT A LOCKET AND WHOSE ON THE ROCK AND ROLL BECAUSE IT CERTAINLY AINT OUMAR THAT IS FOR CERTAIN HE CAME BACK AFTER BEING TREATED TERRIBLY WHICH WQS QUITE FRENKLY VERY DISGUSTING AND GUESS WHAT HES MADE A VERY POSITIVE IMPACT AND CEMENTED HIS PLACE IN THE SQUAD IT JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT PERSISTENCE IS KEY AND THINGS CHANGE BUT ALSO SOME THINGS STAY THE SAME AS WELL GOOD LUCK FOR THE REST OF YOUR CAREER OUMAR YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION MAKE NO MISTAKE KEEP DOING WHAT YOUR DOING.

Lukaku with his famous shockingly poor first touch doesn't even come close to Oumar's work rate, never say die attitude, professionalism and passion. Interestingly, Lukaku doesn't get close to Niasse in his goal scoring stats this season either.

Premier League Scorers 2017/2018

Romelu Lukaku - 990 minutes played, 7 Goals scored = 1 Goal every 141 minutes

Oumar Niasse - 288 minutes played, 4 Goals scored = 1 Goal every 72 minutes.

Was looking through the list in the link again and just wanted to add that not only does Niasse beat Lukaku with his goal scoring stats, he also has the best goals per minute stat out of all 25 of them in the list. Mind boggling and it shows you what can happen when you possess the drive, effort, work rate and passion that he does. Don't need to be highly skilled. Score goals whilst falling over and the ball bouncing off your ass as long as it goes in the back of the net. Never a dull moment with Oumar. :D

Stop now.

It's a fair point. The standard of defending has definitely dropped, and his stamina is something to be admired.

I can't pretend that it doesn't distress me to see the ball being dribbled out of play under no pressure, but I think there's definitely value in keeping him around as a bench option.

Yes, it was a foul but the referee rightly did not whistle it (played an advantage) and the goal was scored as a result.

The law you are suggesting should have been utilized for a send off in this incident falls under the category of "Denial of a Goal Scoring Opportunity" or commonly referred to as a DOGSO by referees. As the the ball ended up in the back of the net despite a foul being committed, the DOGSO law is not applicable in this situation. Therefore, the referee was absolutely correct in not issuing a red card, even retrospectively (after the goal).

Think of it this way.. You are a defender on your goal line. The ball strikes your arm but still goes into the back of the net. Are you sent off for this incident? No. Because the goal was scored, there was no denial of a goal scoring opportunity even though there was a handball.
Fair enough. Like I said I'm definitely not an expert, isn't the intent to deny the goalscoring opportunity the key factor though? The lad who hacked down Niasses had no idea the ball would bounce of his arse in to the net. He intended to prevent a goalscoring opportunity.
