2017/18 Oumar Niasse

Also I noticed one sad statistic but a credit to Oumar, he also has scored more than anyone last season except for Lukaku and barely Barkley who had 6. But in only 321 minutes. Barkley took 3200 minutes to score 1 more goal.

If Niasse scores 4 more goals for the rest of the season, the only player to have beaten that number over the past 5 seasons is Lukaku. No one else has scored more than 8 in the league for us.

Hopefully that will come in time.

I do think people underestimate him from a talent point if view though. Obviously his passing is a bit ropey and some of his control can be a bit off but he reads play well, takes up good positions, plays the offside trap well, has decent close control and his shooting technique is actually really good as he can get power on his shots with very little backlift. He is a decent header of the ball too. Just because he is weak in some areas seems to make people overlook things that he actually is good at.
I would say he is an intelligent player. He could stand to improve his balance and touch a lot, but he is no push over physically.

People want to justify their reasons for slating him originally, that's why they prefer to say he works hard, instead of admit he actually has some good qualities that they never saw because they were too busy slating him.

Some people find it hard to accept they were wrong.

I've been saying for weeks that Oumar is a much greater goal threat than DCL and should be in the team ahead of him. We're a team that's lacking goals and a talisman striker but have an under utilised 10-15 goal per season player under our nose.
Umar's goals per minutes ratio in miles ahead of DCL both in the Prem and U23's but his unconventional style works against him.

Personally I'd like to see them forge a partnership. DCL is a willing runner and pretty unselfish. Plenty of space for Niasse to exploit.

I agree completely, if you can just have 1 up top, I think Niasse has a far better eye for goal. DCL does most everything right except for score. Hes been a little better recently but still not there.

This. I think our ideal lineup right now is BOTH of them together. They seem to make a great partnership, when they have been on the field together we have averaged a shot every 4.1 minutes, vs every 8.1 minutes when its only one of them or neither, in that same stretch. Also, in the 132 minutes they have played together we have outscored opponents 5-1, with a goal every 26.4 minutes. When they HAVENT, since Niasse first came on against Bournemouth we have been outscored 3-11 in 408 minutes, scoring once every 136 minutes.

Niasse has pace and an eye for goal, however unorthodox. DCL has strength and holdup play. They complement eachother so well because you have one available to bring down long balls and flick them on, and a willing runner in Niasse. One for hold up play, the other for through balls.
