Our World Class Players

He'd definitely get in any squad. Would he get in any side? Probably not, yeah, but he's the one player we've got capable of 'world class' quality. Look at his goal v Leicester, or Palace. The touch and finish v Man Utd. No other player in our squad has that ability - nowhere near.

I think I have a very specific definition for world class. I'd say there are only about 15-20 world class players.

Its just me being a bit pedantic but I think its a very overused term! James doesn't make the grade for me. He's capable of moments of brilliance like world class players but he doesn't produce enough to be truly world class.

In terms of ability... he has more than the rest of our side combined. Thats not a good thing, its an indictment.

What a pointless thread..... We are not at a stage as a club to have world class players. However in digne we have possibly the best left back in the league. In Allan one of the best defensive midfielders. In James one of the best playmakers. In dcl one of the best poachers in the league. Add to this Godfrey who has one of the biggest potential for a defender in the league. We've got some very good players. Give anchlotti another summer and I'll be very excited to see our squad.
Doh......So pointless you have given quite an in depth response.....

James is world class, no doubt. Technically he’s unbelievable, but he’s a throwback to a bygone era, he doesn’t have the physicality or engine that everyone seems to want these days. He is undoubtedly far too good for us and I’m just going to enjoy him being here.

I don’t trust Brands at all tbh
It's the whole DOF nonsense that got us into this mess, under Moyes and Martinez we signed players who we needed, ever since 2016 we've been like a 12 year old on Fifa, just buying random players with no thought of whether they fit in to the team or not. Bolaise, Pickford, Snides, Sigs, Klassen, Sandro, Williams, and a few others have arrived for large amounts of money and never haven't do what players we bought for 6 million under Moyes contributed to the club.

Frankly I could tolerate us being poor, when we had average players, who tried hard, but understood they were average, they didn't get paid huge amounts . When you have a player like Bernard getting what he does a week, when NHS staff are risking their lives for far less than he does a week. Honestly what's the effin point anymore we finished 8th under Sam Allardyce, when we were useless for four months of that season. We sold Lukaku in 2017 and still haven't replaced him 4 years later. The club is run by morons from top to bottom and nothing seems to change year after year, we find some way to eff up the season.

We have been hovering around the upper mid table for a few years. That is where we are as a club.
There is no point talking about world class players at this point, as if we should suddenly be pushing Man City for the title.
We do have some very good players that are good enough to get us top 4, but we have too many that are not that level, especially the backups for our better players.

I would suggest we need another 3 or 4 top class first team players this summer and a couple of better squad players, which should be enough to lift us up the table and put in a serious challenge for top 4. The summer after, we add another 2 or 3 first team players and improving the depth again.

Not every signing will work out of course, but Carlo deserves at least 3 full summers to get the squad he needs to seriously challenge at the top

Interesting to see how Covid impacts the long-term money in Everton. I've not really enjoyed watching 'free-spending' Everton under Moshiri. Football's a team game.... we've not put a 'team out' since Moyes left.

....exactly, we do not have any. So we must trust that Carlo and Brands are already planning and negotiating to get better players in for next season. Probably at least 5/6. So lets just be realistic and hope (and pray) for a better next season
James Rodriguez is world class but unfortunately not able to stay healthy

Agree, a joy to watch him play

We signed so many crap players under Martinez mate. Granted they were cheaper but they were also terrible
