Our World Class Players

We are a club that world class players don’t want to come to. We may sign players that used to be world class, but are a little long in the tooth and getting a bit brittle. We players that may, if all the stars and planets align just so, have a chance to become world class in some future season, if they don’t get injured or so frustrated that they want to leave. We also seem to attract a squads worth of dead average types, that would have trouble making the bench with a top club.

We are a mid table club, that recruits mid table players, and have done so for decades.
Ancelloti was hired to break the curse. I hope he is enough of talisman to attract the players we need.
Hoping for the best, not expecting much.

Interesting thread title.
We do have world class players. Forum world class. A player has to have 3 good games and he's Everton forum world class. Reality and fantasy.
We have 0.

Man Utd have got 1 world class player and they’ve finished comfortably second and are going to be in the EL final.

You don’t need a team of world class players, you just need a team of decent players; which we haven’t got. We have several players that are nowhere near the standard required, once we replace them we will improve.

I think the new stadium and lure of european football will help us attract bigger players . With James and Carlo signed , the world is noticing us

....exactly, we do not have any. So we must trust that Carlo and Brands are already planning and negotiating to get better players in for next season. Probably at least 5/6. So lets just be realistic and hope (and pray) for a better next season

....crazy to think we could have 5 or 6 world class players in one team. I’m 64 years of age, been watching some great Everton teams since 1960 & reckon I’ve seen just 3 world class Everton players in my time.

Calling somebody ‘world class’ is a throwaway, lazy comment. Far too many players incorrectly receive that tag. i define world class as being good enough to walk into any team on the planet. Everton need blend, players who compliment each other, players who play like the game matters.

The 1985 team is a decent blueprint.

I use the same definition, good enough to walk in any side

Everton have zero

Close thread.

There are very very few world class players these days, there were loads in the 90s players these days are not on the same level apart from a the obvious few.

It is a term that gets chucked around far too easily, we don't have one. James if he could stay fit would probably hit that bracket as his passing range is one of the best, if not the best on the planet. He wouldn't be here though.

The phrase 'world class' is bounded around far too much often, from my humble experience, by younger fans. It's a moniker that's given for good players.

For me, World Class players are those at the top echelons of the game and would walk into most - if not all - the top clubs competing at the highest level.

They're the players who will have a legacy remembered by many or most around the world. Let's be honest, we have zero and that's not a grumble.

James is probably the closest to being world class based on his previous exploits, but is he world class in the here and now? No, I don't think he is.

If we had world class players, we'd be winning stuff regularly. Even if you dilute the definition, we've only had a handful of top players in the past few decades.

I also think it's part of a wider trend to celebrate the individual over the team.

You can win competitions, especially tournaments without world class players. A well coached team that works harder than their opponents will always have a chance.

Greece 2004 is my obvious and lazy example, but I am supposed to be at work and I just spent half an hour creating a thread on food.

Been like that for a while. Saturation of football and media have to big up the product they pay a lot of money for so you're world class if you have a decent 45 mins.
Christ i sound like greame souness.

I don't trust Brands at all, he's already had 3 years and 6 transfer windows.

Ancelotti will succeed if he's not handcuffed by further poor recruitment.

And its not a case of signing World class players, we cant do that. Its a case of buying a mix of good young talent who may someday reach a level that Top clubs will want them....and also experienced players who Carlo knows and feels are the right fit for his team.

In general we achieved this last summer with James, Doucoure & Allan who were a perfect fit for Carlo, and also Godfrey as a good young talent with plenty more potential.

Problem was, after years of poor signings, our squad is still very weak, and injuries and tiredness to key players has seen us fall away.

Hopefully, an injection of another 4 or 5 quality players this summer, gives Carlo an opportunity to properly challenge, instead of relying of garbage like Iwobi, Delph, King, and Bernard

We dont have any world class players not even close to it.
World class players are players who would get into any team in any league and every club wants.

I would say the closest to it is maybe Digne and i dont think he would look out of place in a very good side.
