Overlooked but big news

You know the TV money will be there in abundance every year from now until we're all worm food? I'm not so sure.
Besides, wouldn't be great if we didn't have to take such loans out every year? If our owners actually put their hands in their own pockets for a change?

If they had put 15 million into the business, I'd still expect them to take out a loan against these revenues. Why wouldn't the take full advantage of every source of cash flow?

If you want to say that they should put their money in, that's a valid argument. It's not going to happen, but it's a valid argument. The bridge loan for the TV revenues? Rings hollow with me, they should be borrowing against these every year to add to the squad.

Except you have no money to run the club until next season, and won't be buying anyone for the upcoming season.

I'm not sure I understand the point your making TBH mate?

From my understanding of it the bridging loan was for operating expenses up to the sky money coming in as we always had a shortfall.

With the amount of cost cutting going on and the additional income from the sale of Rodwell it may be the case we don't need to go for a 'payday' type loan. I certainly hope that it is and it's the start of a more prudent finacial strategy.

I doubt it is but you never know.

4 mortgages cleared , Wooow , Only another 500 to go then , how come this has been made apparent , i thought we had to wait for the all important yearly accounts on this type of thing :dodgy:

Our squad is down to the bare bones ... only 22 players ... of that number at least 7 are youngsters on low salaries... so as for operating costs,, that is down significantly...

Hopefully we're trying to get ourselves in a position, like Stoke, where we're debt free and there is no pressure to sell players.

People can speculate all they want about these loans...like why have they been paid off early, what money was used, will we be getting new loans and for how much, what will be underwriting the loans, will there be any money for signings....

...but the facts are nobody except certain people inside the club and the banks who issue the loans actually know what is going on. I would say just ignore it and wait for the annual financial report, rather than engaging in a game of speculation and chinese whispers. Obviously we have an ongoing managed debt which is no secret. How that debt is managed is not known to the fans. But I would hope that getting some high earners out of the club and bringing some money in has given some flexibility to operate and get a couple more faces in

Paying down the debt doesn't help the fundamental issue that the club doesn't generate enough cash flow.

getting rid of high earners - paying top wages to e.g. 20 players instead of 25 players.. will help with cash flow problems... if you add to that a better TV deal,, the finances should improve....

Not significantly. Everyone is receiving the better TV money, it's all relative.

At the end of the day we need to spend money to make money, we might have reduced debt but we'll never be able to attract the top 4 calibre players with this strategy.

Yes, and qualifying for Europe would wreck that very same strategy to bits.

You have to think that if the new strategy (in the absence - as pfim mentions - of an adequate commercial performance of EFC) is to attack the biggest 'culprit' eating into revenue, which are wages. The iseal scenario for the club owners will be to finish just off the pace of Europe again this season.

We effectively have a club that cant afford to be moderately successful in PL finishing terms. Even a domestic cup win wouldn't have the financial benefits to offset building up a squad that could handle the extra workload of European competition.

Bottom line is: we are run by an absolute shower of [Poor language removed] who will do ANYTHING to cling on at zero expense until they get their big pay off for their shares. An unforgiveable shower of chancers who should be swept into the Mersey.
