Overlooked but big news

Paying down the debt doesn't help the fundamental issue that the club doesn't generate enough cash flow.

Two ways of increasing profits: improve income and/or reduce costs. The latter is more within our control. We seem to be chipping away at the former, but the recession certainly doesn't help.

dont think any1 would really moan if debt was goin down but to still be same is what annoys every 1 when common sense tells you if you sell loads players take big wages of bill then dont spend then surely ur debt goes down

They were hopeless at revenue generation in a credit boom.

Settling loans is ok no problem there but ffs our revenue streams are still ****e so that's what needs fixings and addressing. A plan A needs to be formulated!

I am talking about Everton.... we have cut our staff down... so our finances should improve... if cash flow covers wages and debt payments, then everything is ok... if we get more money from TV and lower our wage bill then we should be ok financially speaking... what other teams do is up to them...

Not significantly. Everyone is receiving the better TV money, it's all relative.

Yes, and qualifying for Europe would wreck that very same strategy to bits.

You have to think that if the new strategy (in the absence - as pfim mentions - of an adequate commercial performance of EFC) is to attack the biggest 'culprit' eating into revenue, which are wages. The iseal scenario for the club owners will be to finish just off the pace of Europe again this season.

We effectively have a club that cant afford to be moderately successful in PL finishing terms. Even a domestic cup win wouldn't have the financial benefits to offset building up a squad that could handle the extra workload of European competition.

Bottom line is: we are run by an absolute shower of [Poor language removed] who will do ANYTHING to cling on at zero expense until they get their big pay off for their shares. An unforgiveable shower of chancers who should be swept into the Mersey.

Didn't it work out something like getting to the Europa league final would make you about £2m extra for the entire campaign compared to £10m for making the group stages of the Champions League? Given the detrimental affect that the EL has on your Premier League form it's just not worth it, hence why Spurs put out a reserve side and Stoke bowed out early. You can't spend money trying to compete with City, United and Chelsea to try and get in the CL. Arsenal realised that early on and Spurs are wising up to it now.

I think they've woke up to the fact that football is a business a bit late. At this moment in time it's going to be very difficult for them to increase revenue via the public because football is a luxury purchase.

Correct!
Greedy bastards will always make a profit but they want a ridculous amount

If you're reducing costs by eliminating needless expenses, that is a good thing.

If you're reducing costs by eliminating player salaries, that is bad (assuming they are not out of control, which they are not relative to the rest of the league). You're effectively reducing your asset base (players), which are the assets that generate your cash flows.

They can't possibly reduce the squad further and intend to compete in the PL. If they do release top earners, those players will need to be replaced, likely with similar salaries. Not only that, the squad needs more numbers so we're not talking about trading just expensive players for cheaper ones. There is a need for additions to the numbers we already have.

Everton compete directly with 19 other clubs and countless others indirectly. What they do an how much they spend is entirely relevant to our finances.

Spurs stay out of the Europe League becuase they CAN finish in CL places. We cant. It doesn't pay off for Everton to be too competitive in the league and finish with a EL place. I shudder to think where Everton would be right now if we'd quailified for it in the last two seasons. ****ed I suspect. Great isn't it? A shambles of a club that cant compete too well without being wrecked even more. Thanks Bill.

Oh please mate, do me a favour. They woke up to sell off more assets and to subcontract any service the club had to subcontract out. There is NO commercial strategy in place. They had all their eggs in the Kirkby basket and it didn't happen. Now they have nothing other than attacking squad size and wages.

Why anyone offers a sympathetic hearing to this bunch of bandits is beyond me.

If I was Everton's accountant or bank manager I would have been pleased to see Arteta, Cahill, Yobo, Yakubu and Saha leave. They were amongst the biggest earners at the club, their level of performance could have been called in to question and they didn't have much resale value as assets. It could be argued that Pienaar, Naismith, Duffy, Anichebe and Vellios have filled the breach and that we are around £11m in transfer fees better off. The departing players had an average age of about 30, whereas the newcomers will be nearer 24. We probably have the same amount of internationals now as we did then as well. So, it looks like we're better off.

Things are obviously black or white with you (and always black). There are lots of things we could do better, but there are lots of things that we do well which other clubs are envious of. It's hard to know the true motivations of Kenwright and the board, but there seems to be some legitimate purpose to the direction we're taking. Without austerity we could be another Leeds or Portsmouth.
