He does seem a bit injury prone which has hampered his progress. In spite of that, he seems to be playing some decent football lately.

He's not been the same player since he left the [Poor language removed], i think thats the club he really wants to go to and the only one where he'll have the motivation to get back to his past form.

The Mail is one of the better sources for Everton stories, but I can't see this one happening. Didn't Owen say something in 2005 when we'd made enquiries for him to the effect that he'd never play for Everton ? And he's not going to be getting any higher wages from us than the barcodes are offering. Waste of money anyway whatever wages he's on : too injury prone.

Yeah I remember some comment about the stick he gets off the Everton fans... theres no way he'd want to join us.

The only signal it would send out to me is that we're the new newcastle, throwing big money on past it players.

Depends on the cost Sim.

Hes had a bad year with injuries, but a good pre-season under his belt and working under Moyes for the club he supports would be an exciting prospect. Players would want to come to Everton to play with players of his calibre.

I know what your saying, big players attract other big players, but I think your over selling Owens reputation, the whole of europe knows he's not the same player anymore and we all know that on his day he can still be world class.

Where do you get this idea he still supports us though? He may have once, a long time ago but not know.

It all boils down to the price really doesn't it. If we could sell AJ and buy Owen for similar price would you be for it?

Didn't Owen buy a whole street of houses in Chester/Merseyside? for his family? Am sure he would like to come back to Merseyside area.

He'll stay at Newcastle. He hasnt had 1 season that wasnt hit with injuries and this season he's started to get back into it and playing well.

Geordies have only him and Martin's as reliable strikers (I'd be surprised if Viduka plays 12 games next season). They need to spend on midfield and defence and spending silly money on a top striker when they've got 2 perfectly good ones and Viduka, is probably something they wont think about.

Yeah but that was years ago when he was at liverpool. I'm sure he would want a return to merseyside, but it wont be to play in a blue shirt.

And would I swap AJ for Owen? For a straight swap with salary exatly the same... maybe...but even still, all AJ needs is a decent midfield.

easily, even if he is injured you'd make the majority of that back in shirt sales and merchandise.

7 million and a wage on par with our top earners I'd sign him up.

Good call, Z. I'd sign him tomorrow on such terms.

Pretty sad state of affairs if we're buying players on the basis we can sell shirts.

It was well documented in the press last week how much Kewell had cost per game over the years and I reckon Owen isn't too far behind, not saying he's not quality but wouldn't want to be relying on him.

As for the comparison between him and AJ what a load of rubbish, Johnson given service will produce and even without pulls his tripe out and I can't see Owen doing that.

Finally if he is looking at leaving Newcastle he should hang his head in shame, he's probably played less than fifty games and owes them big time.

He wouldn't be signed to just sell shirts though would he?

He'd be signed to stick the ball in the back of the net. I think a move to the team he supports could rekindle him into the type of striker we know he can be.

Also if he did sign for us he'd be working under David Moyes I doubt he would have any other option then to give 110% to the cause. Moyesy always manages to bring the best out of players and if Moyes can bring the best out of Owen then we'd have a real player on our hands.

I would take him over Johnson deffinately. He's got nearly twice as many league goals as AJ this year, which has not exactly been an easy one for him. People say that johnson would score more if he had a decent midfield, well look at what owen has had to work with all year, and imagine what he could do upfront with the Yak and Fernandes, Arteta et al supplying him. I agree he isnt the same player he was 4/5 years ago, he's probably better... he may have lost his pace but he seems a more intelligent player now.

Theres talk of japan for him tho:
