My overriding thoughts whilst watching niche sports in the Olympics is…

How do so many of these guys/gals make a living ? Take a sport like water polo for example, where the hell is the money coming from to pay them a living wage ?

No one watches the sport, it doesn’t get televised on any meaningful channels so how is anyone making money from it ?

Same goes for countless Olympic sports, I just don’t get how you make a living from sports which no one watches and thus generate no money.

Is it all just government funded purely for the sake of the olympics coming around every four years ?

We , the tax payers are paying for their hobby.

…..that’s sport at the highest level, dealing with pressure. it’s hard to get over the finishing line even when your task is relatively easy.

….a lot of GB athletes are funded by the National Lottery & I think their subsidy is dependent on how successful their sport is.
