What’s more worrying (if true) is that once again it’s a new name in the frame for negotiating players/managerial signings. Moshiri’s first window he had a go but then called in Bill to get them over the line, then Walsh did some as well as Koeman, Elstone has been involved, Moshiri then brought in Allardyce, now Rysantav is on point. As usual with Everton it’s difficult to tell who does what.
Hasn’t the Russian always been involved with negotiations? Thought that was his job.
Yeah he’s been involved since Moshiri’s day one.

Ryazantsev seems to be the main man at the club pending Elstone's departure and replacement and the future of Walsh being resolved one way or the other, with Kenwright also being sidelined. This ties in with Paul Joyce saying the same when Allardyce was hired.

It does make sense for Moshiri's direct representative on the board to be heading up negotiations with Fonseca, if indeed they are happening at all. He seems to be one of the few at the club currently who can guarantee he'll still be here in August.

It would be disastrous to our hopes of getting Fonseca or anyone else if the negotiators were replaced half-way through the process. That would completely knock anyone's confidence in us as a club capable of doing anything properly.

I hope the gossip is true because now is the time to be putting the hard yards in with a potential new manager, not May or June.

A five year contract doesn't necessarily need to have a five year pay off in it. Other clubs have had it before where there's a long term deal in place but only a one or two year pay off in the event of being sacked.

In fact that's exactly what Allardyce had at Bolton. 10 year contract but only a 1 year pay off. It was a bone of contention for wardrobe head and he mentioned it in interviews much further down the line.

Maybe Fonseca would have something similar?

Must be hard to negotiate it down though. ‘You’re the man we trust to deliver our long term plan, don’t trust you that much though, here’s a 2 year deal in case you’re crap’

I believe there is usually a maximum amount of compensation built into these things - with clauses like if we are in bottom 3 after 10+ games we can sack you with 18 months payoff.

Managers need to be accountable too and back their own ability. A three-year contract with an option for extension seems reasonable enough.

The reward for glaring failure is too great, can't blame managers for taking what's on offer but there has to be some give and take.

Paul Joyce said before Christmas that Ryazantsev was going to be more involved in the day to day of the club.

5-year deal though? Bit stupid if true.

Any long-term deal going forward in togger usually will have a clause stipulating a payment for early termination - usually a year's pay or a set amount not too far off that.

But whoever follows next has to be the man everyone can get behind: the board, the fans, the players - so that we don't find ourselves looking for another manager come next March.

Has to rebuild the club's mentality with both performances at home and away and our standing further afield in Europe, and ultimately, on a global scale.

That's the only reasoning for a 4/5 year deal, stability and a reset on the short-termism that has grown at Finch Farm in the past 18 months.
