Rafael would never come. His ideal job would be making a comeback at Liverpool
He would have come 2 years ago and been willing to commit to building a project over several years, like Klopp, as his family live in Liverpool.
He even put a come talk to me in the media at the time. Interestingly he publically stated we were a great club after RK's sacking. He'd likely still be interested for family reasons at least as he's had no money and an unstable club at Newcastle. Done a top job there none the less.
We're clearly not going to approach him though.

Sure he has.

All of our non finished managers since 2007 trophies won: 0

Rafael trophies won:
Inter Milan

Chelsea

Napoli

Newcastle United

Our managers have been terrible choices but you could at least include the trophies they’ve won before drawing this comparison.

Mourinho tree up both those trophies at Inter. Winning about 3 games with the best team in Europe for 2 trophies isn’t a great achievement. The only trophy worthy of respect there is the Coppa Italia, but given the resources he had at Napoli in what was effectively a 2 team league should he not have won more?

I thought it was obvious I was implying our managers hadn't won a trophy while managing us.
I can understand why Evertonians don't like Rafael. I remember laughing at him for his frustration driven small club remark after Moyes had successfully parked the bus.
However my point was we had a golden opportunity when Moshiri came to finally build a competitive team that won trophies.
Rafael was the big name Mosh wanted, would have committed for years due to family reasons, was available for free and had a cup and league placement pedigree that was so far ahead of RK they simply weren't in the same league.
He would have instantly become the Everton manager who'd won the most trophies, in his full career, in our entire history.
We passed up that opportunity and seen him take a shambolic club with no investment to another trophy while we've become a shambolic club.

TBF, I couldn’t care if he was - hypothetically - our manager and did a League, FA Cup and Champions League treble.

The fact is he’d still love and be loved by the club we all hate the most.

Not if he came here, he wouldn’t.

Wee Sammy is now persona non grata among the Bus Botherers.

I’m just sayin’ :pint2:

Bentiez?

Nope, that's where I would draw the line

Quite apart from the fact that he plays horrible football, there's the very clear disrespect he has shown us in the past

He's literally the only manager since the Shankly/Catterick days to have refused the Merseyside ritual of the opposing manager taking the new manager for dinner when he arrives

The small club episode

I've sat through Allardyce's guff, but this would be a step too far for me

..his family are very settled in the area and he’ll be waiting forever for a return to the Reds. I think he’d jump at the chance of coming to us but I doubt it will happen.

The reality is he would have been a massively improved choice of appointment over Allardyce, post Allardyce we have cornered ourselves into 'having' to go for a attacking manager now who has no baggage.

I'd even say now because of the BFS appointment we have put any appointment choice for Silva in danger of creating a immediate split amongst the fans.

Ultimately unless we get someone very few think us able too - a proven top level manager and winner, then we need to go for a foreign manager who hasn't failed in this league, the likes of Fonseca - Favre etc

Proper wrecking the Paulo thread with the fat Spanish waiter talk, you've got a choice blues

..I adsolutely agree. Benitez would’ve been as close as you can get to guaranteeing safety, plus he’s in a different league when it comes to organisation and strategy.

Most reds would have turned on him. That's football. Look at how Mourinho is treated at Chelsea.
The big question is could he ever have won over Evertonians.
If he'd initially done some PR and apologised for the small club comment and eventually we'd beat the RS and perhaps won a cup then maybe most would have come round.
We'll never know now.

They sung his name numerous times when they beat Newcastle the other week. They haven’t turned on him at all.

They’re all dying to give him the job if the ‘unthinkable’ happens and Klopp leaves.

Thread bans for mentions of Benitez in Paulos thread. You've tarnished it enough and painted an ugly picture for the last 2-3 pages you horrible bastards.

If you're reading this Paulo then please forgive them, they're uneducated virgins that have never known the love of an older man that wasn't their uncle.

Benitez still a shout for anyone?

In a way would be much less of a risk than Fonseca or Emery due to PL experience and undoubtedly a very good manager.

Yes of course he managed them lot, but I’m certainly one of those who can see last that, and imagine how great it would be if he was a success with us and beat them in the Derby.
You mean Raffa "small team" Benitez. Are you serious?
