I still think Koeman was the highest profile manager we could have attracted at the time Frank, he had just taken Saints higher than the boy Poch did, despite him losing their best player, he wasnt top drawer, he did very well in his first season, now we know how it ended, but I think he was a sensible appointment. I didnt want him beforehand, but as I say, I dont think we could have got a "bigger" manager than him at the time, we had just come off the back of 2 11th place finishes and werent really attractive.

Walsh, yeah in hindsight it was a terrible decision, but again, I dont think there were many other options around, we flirted with Monchi, who jogged us on and Walsh was coming off the back of the Premier Leagues greatest fairytale. Brands has admitted that we were interested in him back then and he also jogged us on then.

And as I keep saying with regards Sam, he was the right person at the right time for me.

But yeah, its all about what happens next really.
I thought koemans first season was rubbish,we finished 7th but the season was over in January!

Napoli sniffing round him...

Reports from Italian daily Corriere della Serra say that Napoli have already contacted Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca.

Corriere della Serra believe that the club and club president Aurelio de Laurentiis have already contacted Shakhtar manager Paulo Fonseca to hold talks over handing him the role of the manager next season, with Sarri's future currently uncertain.
Hopefully the lure of the Prem is still one he finds the most appealing.

Fonseca is probably a good barometer of how difficult it might be to attract a half-decent manager. Supposed interest previously from PSG, and now Napoli.

It does seem he is well thought of and we might steal a march if we can get him. Silva has not been snapped up six months on, though obviously that may mean an agreement with us, or the hope on his part, of an offer.

If Fonseca is not interested in us, then the calibre of who might be just falls off to match. Fonseca has no experience in a major league and whatever you say about the Ukrainian league, its effectively a two-horse race. He hasn't or shouldn't have done near enough to attract a team with title-winning/UCL credentials in one of the big leagues, but good managers will always have suitors.

It shouldn't come down to Fonseca or Silva though it probably will. Silva has a similar record or profile in many respects but my gut instinct seems to be that Fonseca is preferred.

If we don't / can't get him Silva represents more of a gamble due to his career inconsistency and defensive question marks, but that is the level of manager we'll likely end up with. Someone with raw potential but capable of better. A gamble in every sense.

Personally I would still opt for the aspiration of better even with Silva over the continuance of the staleness under Allardyce but these decisions are far from easy.

Perfect for them.

You can see where we sit in the footballing food chain.

Arsenal have to decide between Allegri, Ancelotti or Luis Enrique.

We have Sam or out of work Marco Silva to choose fromlollol

Everton having a coherent plan that can be shown to potential suitors, with details and not just wishful thinking, would also help us. We seem to be a bit of a mess internally which must put more in demand candidates off.
